I have the infinity gold package in my jeep with the built in amp under the seat. i bought an after market stereo and was wondering if i have to have anything special to make the stereo work. I bougtht wire adapters from walmart for the stereo so i could hook them to my factory wires. Also i have buttons on my steering wheel to change radio stations and volume would they still work

yes you can upgrade the radio, all you need is a wiring harness and dash kit. VERY easy car to put a cd player in.

what kind of radio did you get?? in most cars you can integrate steering wheel controls, depends on the radio.

they make an amp bypass kit that simply plugs in, check your local dealer or we could probably find one online. Take the amp in with you and you can match it up.

Isn't it PAC that makes the steering integration? Should be available at the same store. They take some programming but are not too bad. Just have to follow the instructions and make good connections.

you don't have to bypass the amp, though. me personally if the infinity system sounds good, i say use it because it's not bad at all.

yeah it's either PAC or soundgate that makes the steering wheel integration. i'll try to find it later, i'm going to sleep.

i have one question and that is how do i get the plastics off to get to the factory sterio so i can swap.

UKinstaller on 01/26/2005 19:35:26
all you have to do is get a prying tool (be very careful not to scratch) and pry the piece of dash that surrounds the factory head unit, not anything below the straight line below the radio. insert the pry tool in the bottom right of the plastic piece, pop it out, but be careful. once you get it off, there will be two 10 MM bolts holding the factory head unit in. take them out, and you'll be good to go.

I checked on one of those adapters to enable my steering wheel buttons to work with my head unit. they wanted $80 for it. do you know where i could get one cheaper. They also said it is hard to program.

to be perfectly honest with you i've never done one of those. i can't imagine they'd be TOO hard though. ttocs or swez might know. what kind of head unit are you going to put in there??

i have my new deck installed and all wires going to the right spot but i have no sound. could the facory amp and premium sound system be causing that. I had the two adapters for the power and then one for the speakers on the back of my factory. also there was another little wire and then this one black wire mounted to the case of the factory radio i need help.

the black wire mounted to the radio is the ground. tap into that for your ground for the kenwood.

to get your sound to turn on, tie the antenna wire from the factory harness into the blue/white stripe wire on the kenwood harness. if there is no antenna wire, there should be a blue wire w/ white stripe on the factory harness that says amp, tap that into the blue white wire on the kenwood.

as far as the wiring goes, you only need the two plugs for the new radio to work. the black and the grey plugs, both rectangle looking. forget the other plug, that's for the amp i think but you don't need it. all your speaker wires are in those two plugs. and use that ground.

so if i use the amp wire on the kenwood and tap it into the wire on the factory plug would that enable the factory amp or would that bypass the amp. i stereo place down the road said to just find the output wires for the speakers and connect them to the kenwood and bypass the amp since the factory amp is only 25w x 4 and the kenwood is 50w x 4. he said it would make no sense to use the amp and i would have to cut the plug on the amp and wire into it. the only problem is that there are no markings for what wires coming out of the amp are for what speaker and i would have to figure that out.

trust me, your infinity amp is more powerful than your kenwood.

if you tie the blue wires together, you will enable the amp, not bypass it. you don't have to cut into anything. try it out how i recommended, and if you don't like how it sounds, we can try something else.
