Jeep Infinity Speakers problem

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Chrysler Infinity sound system. The right front speaker sounds as though it is bursted. I have heard that it could be the amplifier rather than the speaker. Has anyone else had this problem or know what might be going on?

Can see 2 options to test what you have:

1. Test only the speaker with a know good sound source. If it sounds bad... replace the speaker.

2. If the speaker sounds good off test step #1, then back tracking to the internal amp is next. May have a loose wire, a poor ground or amp defect.

i can almost GUARANTEE that it's a blown speaker. jeep infinity systems, while they do sound good when they work, tend to blow rather easily and quite often. i would say that about 90% of the jeep infinity systems (and the durango infinity systems) that i have worked on have at least one blown speaker.

if you do as swez mentioned and it is blown, i would recommend sticking some aftermarket infinity speakers in there. NOT factory replacements from a dealership. some people tend to want to replace them at the dealership with the infinity systems for some reason. however, they are crazy expensive and will blow just as easily. i think the aftermarket infinity speakers blend well with the system and fit real nice. keep it infinity, ya know??

sorry to vent i just hate infinity systems. they sound good but blow like to other factory systems.

Hey jeep00 if you decide to replace your speakers with aftermarket ones drop me a line I am looking for some used 5 X 7 infinity speakers to replace one of my own that has blown out.

infinity likes to use strange impedences to keep it hard to put anything else in except their speakers. Take the speaker out and see what the ohm value is on the back. if it does not have it listed you will probably need to remove the good one and measure it. We may be able to help you replace the speakers but it will not sound right unless you replace them both. You will probably get better sound but it may be hard to match them up....

Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement dash speaker? I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee with the Infinity system and I was about to drop by the dealer to pick up a couple of replacements (until I read this forum). I've found a close fit at Ultimate Electronics but, I'm not sure it will fit or even if its a better replacement. Thanks. SMILE
