hey everybody. is it possible to run a head unit using only the ignition wire or is it essential to have the ground wire and constant wired? i have used a multimeter on the constant wire and its only reading 2 volts while my ignition wire has a clear 12 volts. whats the go? thanks! (bare metal a must) As for Constant wire, need that to be 12 volts as it retains MEM/clock functions and in some cases, powers the internal amps. Most can run a separate power wire (fused appropriately) to the + side of the BAT, if you cannot find one in the dash. What HU make/model # are you working on? Swez UKinstaller on 01/14/2005 10:07:50 the constant you are testing is either a bad ground from the meter, not the right wire, or has a blown fuse. what kind of car?? -UK ttocs on 01/14/2005 10:19:00 You can also tap the cig lighter for a constant. They are normally on the same circuit anyway. Some dashes have a metal inside that you can tap a screw in for ground, even use the mounting screws that hold the radio. mestup on 01/15/2005 00:38:35 its an 87' accord, the HU is pioneer deh-p4650mp im def sure the wire im testin is the constant. i might check the fuse. how do i get a constant from the cig lighter? thanks guys!
