Prev :: Next I have rather complicated questions so I thought I’d see if I could find some experts by posting in these forums. I just got a new Ford Mustang ’05. I’d really like to compliment the car by giving it a hooked up audio system. My needs are very specific and as I mentioned could get complicated. I’m looking to put in a TRUE media center for my car. I want to have capability for AM/FM, Sirius Satellite, MP3 and CD. (no DVD) That isn’t very hard to find, here is where it gets difficult. I would also like this system to have an included hard drive to store the MP3 files (think car iPod). I am NOT looking for a system that only plays MP3s off a disk. I’d like to have the ability to transfer files from my home computer to the car audio system and store them there locally. This would most likely be by disk and USB. I’d prefer if most of this was included in a single unit and not have to hook up external units through auxiliary connections or anything like that. So.. Any ideas or recommendations on how I might accomplish this? Thanks in advance. Here are a few products I’ve been looking at: Rockford Fosgate... http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Rockford_Fosgate_DMP1 Kenwood also makes one... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OS7bvg9SpyV/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=113KHDC710&g=50800 and Alpine... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OS7bvg9SpyV/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50800&I=500HDA5460 and OmniFi... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OS7bvg9SpyV/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50800&I=575DMP1 Replies (5) ttocs on 01/11/2005 21:24:12 I have always been an alpine fan. I understand they make an ipod integration unit although I have not looked at it. The other guys are better at the hardware recommendations, I can get you through the install. Does your Stang have the premium sound system? In past models it has been very easy to bypass and integrate into these, hopefully they have not changed them. Always been a big mustang fan, love the '05. V6 er V8? UKinstaller on 01/11/2005 21:46:55 ttocs i just ordered the alpine ipod control unit for my pulsetouch. i have messed with them before....sweet stuff. josh4....have you considered just building an I-pod into your sound system. they sound AWESOME when using the inputs on an aftermarket head unit. plus, you can take them with you. building a mount for them would be easy. i have a friend with an M3, we just recently built a mount in his car that when he plugs his I-pod into it, it plays through the auxiliary input on his HU and charges at the same time. very clean, NO wires showing. are you pretty set on the HU with hard drive?? -UK josh4 on 01/13/2005 16:53:39 to be honest i'm not exactly sure what kind of sound system it has. its a v6 automatic. i wouldnt say im 'set' on a HU with harddrive... i have considered the ipod i suppose it would be easier uochronos on 01/14/2005 00:15:17 one thing here i dont know much about harddrives in stereos but i know alot about hard drives if you hit a hard bump at the wrong time the hard drive well scratch its disk and its all down hill from there thats why especialy older note book computers the hard drives went bad alot... i would ask some of these companies which ones have shock pretection from sudden bumps etc and not go with one that5 doesnt have some sort of safe gaurd.. i pods and other smaller devices use memory that works differnt hence no problem with sudden bumps... It will be important to know what the stock stereo consists of, and what you want to add. Ford uses a couple of different stereos, and they can make the install very easy, or a little hard. They are generally not too had to get around, especially compaired with what GM is doing with their decks.... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
