Hi-level inputs + RCA input from an additional component. Possible?

If I have my HU hooked to my amp through the hi-level inputs, can I run a portable CD player through the amp by using the headphone wires adapted to RCA cables, and using the RCA input on 2 channels (RF/LF) of the amp? I know it would require a manual remote power switch for the amp. I may be stuck with that option anyways. The reason I want to do this is because the portable CD player is able to play sections of tracks, over and over, and that's a feature that is important to me. My amp is an Ample Audio 414X, 4 channel, and it has hi-level and low-level inputs.

I hate to break the bad news... but from previous things I have read, it's either Hi input or RCA's. One or the other, but not both.

Sorry,

it would require you to use either one of the inputs, or the other. You could plug in the rca's, and disconnect the high level(unplug the hrns) or visa versa... I am not for sure what would happen if both were plugged in, would not recommend finding out.

This would also ONLY work if you don't have the deck hooked directly up to any speakers.

If the HU is connected to the hi-level inputs, and it is turned off, it wouldn't be supplying any signal to the amp, correct? Why would it make a difference whether I unplugged the hi-level inputs, or just turned the HU off?

you could still be feeding voltage back into the deck. The decks outputs are not designed to accept voltage inputs. Even a small amount of voltage could cause harm as it was just not designed for it.

One thought.... use blocking diodes from the HU to High side inputs on the amp. The diodes only allow current to flow in one direction and no power will return to the OEM HU.

As for the amp, cannot say how the preamp will handle dual inputs. It might be worth a call to Ample Audio Techs and see what they suggest. Let them dictate the outcome as they know how the amp was designed.
