I have a pioneer DEH-P4650MP (this is the latest deck or hu with the blue screen and green buttons) the deck is running to a Boss BA-2900 which is a 1000watt max, 4 chennel amp the amp is powering pioneer TS-A6960E (6by9, 3 way, 240 watt speakers) which are placed behind the passenger seats. The fronts are pioneer 6 and a half inch splits 150watt max. These have not yet been installed into the doors yet so they just sit on the floor and and tweets on the dash. My first Question is what do i set the gain controls on the amp at there are no numbers printed around the gain knob and I dont know what the deck output is all I want is for it to all sound decent and handle the odd really loud song. There are different controls for the front and rear speakers on the amp there are different knobs aswell but im not sure what they do and dont seem to make much difference when adjustred My second Question is is it worth drilling a hole threw the boot and mounting the ground cable for the amp on the chasse somewhere as most of the inside is fiberglass. My third question is how do I reconise speaker damage as my first amp was a dud which was replaced posseably due to ground and gain problems. My fourth question is is it worth running a ground cable to the chasse for the deck aswell because at the moment it is only atatched to part of the heater controlls which does work but dosent look right. Start with the amp gains turned all the way down, and the deck volume at 2/3 - 75% of full volume. Also make sure all the bass and treble controls are nuetral or off on the deck and the amp. Start adjusting the amp gain until you have it loud, but not clipping. Keep it clean. #2-You will need to get the ground to a clean piece of metal. If the trunk is fiberglass then may need to drill a whole. I imagine there is some bracing in there somewhere that would work ok. #3-I really don't understand this question, are you asking about speakers or amps? #4-That sounds bad, yes please move it to the chassis. The additinal knobs and switches on the amp are probably cross over adjustments. I/we can tell you how to adjust them, just to save me some typing how much do you know about cross overs? 15-11-1988 on 01/7/2005 23:38:54 I heard the if the gain is set wrong it will damage the deck amp and speakers so i didnt try adjusting it while it was playing but i will try that. # how do i reconise damage done to my speakers as my first amp made alot of loud noises out of the speakers that sounded like it would have done damage. I think the other knobs are for the sound and bass. I know what a passive cross over is as that is on the wires for my tweetie splits but thats all I know about cross overs. 15-11-1988 on 01/7/2005 23:50:51 Just discovered my amp has Vairable low pass & high pass crossover no idea what i am ment to do with this http://www.strathfield.com/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=320 swez on 01/8/2005 07:45:56 Gain matching: Need to know the HU preamp voltage that comes out of the RCA's to amp. The install manual will have that information and we set the amp gains to same value. Depending on the unit, it can range from 2.2 - 5.0 volts when volume control is set at 75% of max. Amp Crossovers: Most amps have a High and Low pass filter system. The HPF is used to block low frequencies to smaller format speakers. Since you have not mentioned subs here, the front splits are fine at 60-80 Hz. The 6x9's in back can be set the same. If you get too much bass from either set, move up the HPF until it sounds clean. Swez FYI: The power rating system used by that store site, are absolutely laughable. They seem to reflect far more power (watts) on every product I looked at. These are peak wattage numbers. The real world figures we use here (USA) to rate power are called RMS or Continous Music. power. That number is about 50% of peak watts. RMS is the real world wattage info that tells the whole story.
