so where are you

swez on 01/22/2005 07:27:54
Got side tracked mang. A new dump of snow coming today and had to jockey a few cars around and get the snow machine preped for the job. Turned in to longer project than anticipated. No gas in tank, had to make up a batch of pre-mix etc.

Sorry for the snafu guys... priortities ya know,
Swez

MrBrownstone on 01/22/2005 16:52:16
Oh! So we're not a priority to you? The snow isn't going to be there in the morning?

You haven't heard of a shovel?

You couldn't take 20 minutes to talk.......wait, getting a little hormonal. :-)

Must be the Nick & Jessica marathon, again.

Mr. B.... are your miffed? (or just daft?) Lose your butt at poker this week? (hope not)

Actually, we got a goodly dump of snow today. Am very glad I prepared last night as I needed both a shovel and the snow machine. As it was, nominal snow depth was about 8". Had several larger drifts, well over 12" deep. Was at it over 3 hours and more coming later tonight.

This winter, reminds me of the days when I was just a "little swez". I can recall normal winters that were very much like this one. Plenty of snow, ice and sub zero days in Jan & Feb. Grabbed my shovel, did our house and then went out to make a few bucks, doing other places. Didn't have a snow thrower in those days. (35-40 years ago)

Am sure you folks in Minnihaha are getting much the same? Used to travel there on biz (before we met) 86-98 and recall some pretty brutal weather there too. From my vantage point, Y'all can have it and keep it there. Don't send it this a-way. Am getting too old for this crap.

Swez

PS Put in a good word toward your folks (in Nort da Colda) for me eh? Hormonal? Yep, been a bit on the cranky side of late. Back injury and "Cabin Fever" seem to be the order of the day... everyday... GRIN

MrBrownstone on 01/22/2005 21:31:43
I saw more SUVs on the side of the road than a Chevy Dealership!!! I stayed off the roads as I don't have a need to drive 88 miles to play poker when I can check-raise chumps from my own computer.

Nice to hear you got some exercise for 3 hours...even if it wasn't being put to work by some young woman ;)

Don't lie to anyone. When you were our age, Moses was still finishing up his waterpark and God hadn't invented snow yet.

Cabin Fever...it wouldn't be such a big deal except I don't have a snowbunny. The one prospect I had drifted away with the last low pressure system centered over Ontario. That means that I'd need to buy a driveway to work up a sweat this weekend.

Unless, I get in a 5/10 No Limit game...I can sweat plenty then.

swez on 01/22/2005 22:34:30
Ohhh, you know about Moses?

He's the guy that parted the Red Sea as the troops from Egypt were barreling down on him and maybe 3 million Jews that were tagging along with old Moses. They all got safely across the parted waters and when the Egyptian army went in after them. They didn't make to the other side. The water came back in on them and they all died. (that water park?)

FWI: Moses was 80 years old when he got the call from HQ to lead Israel out of Egypt. Spent another 40 years wondering around in the desert with this motley crew. In all, they only had a 12 mile walk to the Promised Land of Canaan. But since most were chronic complainers and constantly tested God's patience, He made them walk for 40 years, until a new generation came on board and the grumblers died off. Moses lived to the ripe old age of 120 years old.

Were you thinking of Noah and his not-so-fancy yacht? (pre-flood days?) Well, it took Noah 120 years to build that boat and ancient history tells us there had been no rain ever, in that day. The earth was shrowded in a canopy of mist that provided water for planting and farming etc.

Noah's neighbor's all thought he was a madman for taking on such a huge building project. They laughed and scoffed at him for many years... but he kept right on working until it was finished. When the rain finally did come, it did not stop for 40 days and 40 nights. His scoffing neighbors all died in the process. I'd say Noah had the last laugh afterall.

Hummm, can you imagine the smell, the noise and all the work Noah's family had to do, tending to all those animals? Theologians speculate they were in that ark for almost 6 months. Until the waters began to receed enough to leave the ark. Not only that, but they had a bigger task later. Re-populate the planet. Am sure that was the fun part of the whole deal too.

Can you imagine having to make babies at >600 years of age? (his poor wife eh?) Sounds like a tall task for the old fella. The Bible says Noah lived to the ripe old age of 950 years. That's 350 years after the flood. So that made Noah ~480 years of age, when he started building the ark. He had 3 sons to help... Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Anyway, the Bible is a fascinating set of 66 books. It talks about most anything we would need to know about managing life on this planet. It talks a lot about money, greed, power, sex and even about building extreme Bass machines. Can we dare imagine the cabin gain effect one would get in an ark of that size? This boom box was:

Length: 300 cubits
Width: 50 cubits
Height: 30 cubits

So the question is.... how long is a cubit? And... what was the cubit area of this ark, tuning frequency, port area and estimated SPL within this ark. Consider 2 of every kind of animal was in this ark.... 2 elephants, 2 lions, 2 giraffe, a pair of Crocks, a few Hippos' and pretty much, every creature we now see on the planet. (some are now extinct)

Thought to ponder? How many SPL would a lion's roar be, an elephant's trumpeting or maybe a Hippo's fart? Keep in mind, this ark was fully sound dampened with tar and pitch. (water tight too)

My point.... God was really into big SQL stuff in His earlier days. Afterall, he taught Noah how to build the first "woofer/tweeter system". All that, with no electricity either. How 'bout that!

HAPPY readings,
Swez

To answer one of your questions, I WAS talking about Moses and his water park, but the old boat ride WAS built by Noah. Good catch.

I was alluding to the fact that rather than birthdays, we take Ole trusty Swez over the the Paleontologists office and have him radio carbon dated, to determine how many particles he still has going for him.

:p

PS By particles, I don't mean after he's had SW style Chili

Oh, I s@@...

What's the matter? Did you not enjoy the bedtime story I gave earlier?

This is something we Dads often do with our younger children. Everybody cozies up in our "jammies", each child has a few short books and Mom or Dad read and tell long, boring stories that literally put them all to sleep.

Actually, this ritual was kinda fun. Am sure you will get a kick out of it someday too. But first, have to catch one of those snow bunnies out there. Here's the drill:

1. Whisper a few "sweet nothings" into her ears
2. Put a ring on her finger
3. Tie the knot
4. Enjoy the marital bliss (can last 6-24 months, even longer if we work hard at it)
5. Children show up unannouced, as a natural course of events that take place from time to time

I'm sure you know the rest right? Ever consider a Russian, Asian, or other mail order bride service? I hear business is booming in that sector. The only drawback, they tend to become US citizens, get a job and bolt for the door in a few years. A possible solution... just get a new one, after the lease expires.

Hey, Donald Trump did it. He's now on bride #3 at age 58. She is a 34 year old fashion model from Slovenia. Want to see the happy couple? Have a look:

Don't they look happy? LOL
