One of the local appliance stores, HH Greg, is offering free instalation on a codealarm remote starter (model ca420). Ive wanted to get one for my dad for a while now and since it'll only cost me $100 installed, i figured id go for it. Anyone know anything about this brand? I dont wanna get it installed if its junk, but on the flip side i dont need something spectacular, as long as itll start the car...any comments? Replies (6) uochronos on 01/2/2005 15:52:28 as long as its a newer car it shoudl work.. if its throttle body injected or carbuerated dont get one installed. but as long as its a realativly new car 90 or newer then any remote start should work... its a pretty simle unit. complicated to install yes but the way it works is easy really. i have never had this companies products before but i have seen cheap remote starts my buddy installed one he paided 59.99 for and it worked and as far as i know still works. Chronos UKinstaller on 01/2/2005 19:43:25 i install code alarms every day. the one that is around that price range is, oddly, MUCH better than the more expensive ones. the more expensive one's use something called the Code Alarm Master Module, and those are complete trash. on the flipside, the one that you are speaking of is called the "do it yourself" CA, and is very reliable. that is an excellent price and i think you should go with it. what type of car is it?? many newer cars today need ignition bypasses to remote start the car, but early to mid-late 90's cars usually don't. if you do need one, they will charge you extra for that, usually about $30 - $50. -UK cplkittle on 01/2/2005 22:00:04 don't forget the joys of reversing polarity for those oddball door triggers, 5wires, and the infamous dodge resistance triggered door locks. (www.the12volt.com should have any relay answers for you if you install it yourself.) UKinstaller on 01/3/2005 09:22:00 oh my lord i did a five wire yesterdeay in a 2000 dodge ram and i would not be upset if i never had to do it again. i only had about an inch of wire to work with for each of the four door lock wires that had to get hooked up. it was horrible. -UK ttocs on 01/3/2005 13:15:43 I thought there was a good place to hit the rams on the doorlocks, can't remember where now for the life of me. Check the shop 1rst and see how they install them. I put a code alarm on my moms car when it was new in '94 and have never had to touch it since. A good alarm can be ruined with a bad install. See if they use t-taps, crimp connections or solder. Let them know that you are going to be checkng their wiring to make sure it is up to spec. All you really need to do is pop your head under the dash and you will know if it was good or bad. You should not be able to see any or at least very little of it.. Buickman94 on 01/4/2005 16:11:49 Thanks for the imput here guys. The car is a 2000 camary with a factory alarm. Ive never messed with an alarm or remote start and dont have the time for trial and error so im gonna let the shop take care of this one. Now that i know its a decent product, should get it done any day now...thanks again Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
