I just had a Kenwood KVT-815DVD installed in my car. I was frustrated when I found out after the fact that I had to have the parking brake engaged to view any video. Can anyone help me in bypassing this feature? I know it is possible, just not what to do. Thanks. Replies (4) Crum on 12/20/2004 17:05:30 This is from crutchfield.com. . . Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the displaying of video while the vehicle is in motion, the supplied 3-wire harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit, as well as a constant power source and ground. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus. . . . it seems that this harness looks for two power sources (one being the parking break) to activate the DVD player. I would think that if you connected both of these wires to a constant power source, say the cigeratte adapter, your DVD player would work. I have no experience hooking up DVD players, but that would be my guess. Best of luck CEC. . . Crum ttocs on 12/20/2004 17:51:48 disclaimer---It is illegal in most states to have motion video veiwable by the driver while the car is in motion. With that being said the parking brake wire normally looks for a ground from the parking brake. So basically it is a switch...... does that make sence? I would love to give you step by step instructions on what/how/where but I don't think it would be smart for me, or some one else on here to do this as if something did happen I can only imagine it would come back to me...... UKinstaller on 12/21/2004 00:41:51 do NOT buy anything to enable this feature. just tie the parking brake bypass into the ground wire on the back of the HU and it will work. you don't need a switch unless you want to turn the feature on and off. careful when driving though, a guy in alaska is up for double murder for killing two people because he was watching a DVD when driving and had a wreck...... -UK uochronos on 12/21/2004 11:54:01 really be carefull here i wont help any of my friends bypass this feature because i know they would watch it while driveing... do not do this... if you wreck while wtaching a DVD and even if you dont hurt someone chances are your insurance well drop you. if you do hurt someone in your own car or in another car you are up for some serious charges like UK said. this feature is put here by the companies for a reason they dont want to pay millions to the families of people hurt and so the blame gets bumped down to you. so be carefull so you dont have to spend the rest of your life paying for the damage. just my 2 cents to be carefull Chronos Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
