I was trying to install a new cd player in my isuzu rodeo, and for some reason now the vehicle won't start. i had unplugged the battery while working in the dash, and had driven the car while i had taken the old system out before installing the new one. the only thing that changed from when the car worked and when it didn't was that i cut the wires going into the factory harness to remove some splice-work done by whoever had installed the last system. i cannot figure out why cutting these wires would prohibit the car from starting. i checked the battery, and it's fully charged. what's also confusing is that the car gets power from the battery to run the clock, and seems to be ok in accessories mode. it's when i try to crank it that it loses all power, and the response of the engine has gotten progressively worse. if anyone can help with this, that would be great. thanks. It can be checked for free at most good autoparts chains like Pep Boys, Auto Zone or NAPA. If the battery voltage is under 12 volts nominal, but drops big time after a start... that indicates ALT/REG failure or a shorted BAT. It almost sounds like the engine control module has lost some of its input signals from various sensors within the car. Without constant data inputs from various sensors in the engine control system, the car may start, but not run well. Try resetting the ECM by disconnecting the battery terminal for 1 minute. That will reset the ECM to all normal default settings. Also, you may have to invest in a volt/ohm meter to probe the wires in the dash mentioned earlier. May have tapped into a circuit for HU/anti-theft system that is messing up the whole electrical system. Again, look for blown fuses! Swez PS Am sure a few of our installers here, will have additional inputs for you. This has got to be an installers worst nightmare. ttocs on 12/14/2004 15:42:42 I am going to start simple here. I am not insulting you, just wondering if you have made the same mistake I have done in the past.. Is the car/truck in park??? I ask I have bumped it out or forgot to return in to park on a few occasions. That of course leads to a cold sweat, and me thinking,"oh god what did I do?"............. UKinstaller on 12/14/2004 15:58:50 try the fuel pump fuse under the hood!! i did the same thing in my rodeo once. it seems to be a fairly common problem. does it try to start but just won't turn over?? -UK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
