Hi- I bought a 10in jl audio w7 and am running it with a jl audio 500/1 amp. I had it professionaly installed and you can't even hear the sub. The sub is moving when its on but it seems like it is being underpowered. The system is hooked up to the cars stock head unit. Do I need to buy an aftermarket head unit to get more power or what should I do? Any help would be much appreciated- o and the systems in an 04 mitsubish ralli art if that makes any difference Thanks zan :The box was custom made and is ported. It is hooked up with 4g monsters and they used a line level adaptor to hook it up to the HU. Thanks Replies (5) CSR on 12/13/2004 16:20:13 When you say hooker up to the stock HU, do you mean that there are interconnects from the HU to the amp? In some ways it sounds like the cross-over isn't hooked up or working. Can you give us more details as to how it's hooked up? Cliff P0werLifter on 12/13/2004 16:49:57 What type of enclosure do you have set up here?Ported? or Sealed? how many Cubic Feet is the enclosure? 500watts RMS is the optimum wattage value for the 10 w7 so its not really an issue there as long as you have it set up right. Whats the VC configuration of these woofers? DVC? 2ohm, 4ohm what? How are they run? series, parallel, Series/parallel? Once we know more factors here we can help determine what can be changed, fixed, etc. UKinstaller on 12/13/2004 18:44:06 you do get much better sound quality if you upgrade to an aftermarket head unit, especially one with subwoofer controls. alpine makes excellent head units with subwoofer controls. on the contrary, no matter what kind of setup you have, a JL 500 on a W7 should DEFINITELY loud enough to at least be heard. that is an excellent combination that is comparable to a set of decent 12's in loudness. sense you had it professionally installed, i would suggest taking it back to them, because many companies will try to blame it on you if you mess with it and then you tell them it doesn't sound right. -UK swez on 12/13/2004 20:38:41 Agreed! This kit should be plenty of bass when the amp and sub haved adequate input power from the source. (HU) There are some tricks when using stock HU's that can improve sub performance. But, a newer aftermarket HU with multiple RCA outputs, can put you into a whole new realm of audio performance. Since you have a Mitsu... it may have an Infinity stock HU and outboard amping. If the installer did it well, should haved adequate bass from this setup. UK Installer, ttocs and Kittle are our main go-to guys for this side of the board. Let's see what they have to say. UK has checked in... I agree with his comments. But, let's get some additional inputs to confirm your next move. Swez ttocs on 12/13/2004 21:03:52 how did they hit the signal? Did they use a loc or did they use the high level inputs on the amp? Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
