Is there a difference between these two items?

there is quite a differnce here between the 2 items mentioned...

a line driver boosts signal to the amp, say you currently have 2volt preouts you can boost them with a line driver to say 4 volt preouts.

where a ground loop isolator is to work out grounding issues it does not boost the signal itts there to work out a ground issue.

Correct .... on the line driver. Some can deliver 5-13 volts out of a 2 volt input. These are active devices that require power and are often complex preamps. (some come with noise filters)

A bit more detail...Line filters and Ground Loop Isolation transformers, are used to remove noise on RCA lines. The are usually a pair of air core transformers that do not pass DC noise through them. They filter them with simple passive filter networks. (caps & coils) No power is needed in most applications.

would a line filter be a good thing to use? I like my HU but it has a low voltage (2.2v) would it be worth getting one or is a new HU better?

if you are wanting a higher voltage then you can get a line driver, or a new deck. You will probably notice a slight difference.

Higher voltage is a good thing and that is why so many HU makers have moved up to a 4-5 volt system. The main thing, is to keep the signal free of noise when installing it. That most often means.... GOOD GROUNDING techniques and matching amp gain to the HU used.

Are you having noise problems now?
