My daughter has informed me that she would like a remote start for her 01' Tahoe ( automatic 2x4) I have had these installed in the past but feel with a little help from here I could not only purchase a good one but also install it myself. "What do ya think?" I would also like to install one in a 04' Dodge Ram (Automatic) Thanks in advance ================================================== I first come here seeking advise on a new stereo install on a project car. I have to tell you I, I have been treated to the vary best informaton and advise one could ask for. Thanks to eveyone involved! CLAP Replies (11) UKinstaller on 12/7/2004 14:08:15 the dodge ram would be much easier than the tahoe. with the tahoe, you will more than likely have to bypass the factory keyless entry system if you plan on using the remote start and keyless entry on the same remote. to install the remote start, you must find the following wires: 1- constant 2- 2 ignitions 3 - accessory 4 - starter 5 - tachometer (usually under the hood) 6 - brake pedal (tap the brake and kills the car to help prevent drive-offs) 7 - install a hood pin under the hood to prevent RS from being activated with hood up 8 - parkings lights 9 - lock/unlock if you want to use keyless entry. 10 - usually an antenna up in the a-pillar or something like that. i think that's all the wires. if you are up to all the work, then by all means myself and others can guide you through it. i am warning you though that they are not the easiest things in the world. but it is definitely doable. -UK uochronos on 12/7/2004 16:14:22 UK is right they are doable but not easy.... especialy if you have to bynpass the keyless entry already there... there is a reason that most places charge quite a bit to remove stock keyless entry and alarms.... its time consuming as all get out... i would say if you have alot of patience and a good knowledge already of engine electricals in general. then you can do it and we can walk you threw it. however i would plan a whole day for this. also not sure how long a warranty chevy has but if the engine is still under warranty which many have a 5 year then i would suggest making sure that this does not void that... Chronos ttocs on 12/8/2004 13:33:39 I have never had to remove a stock keyless. Always left them in and functional and wired mine on top. You will need to bypass the passlock security bypass. I would plan on a weekend to be honest.... If you are not experienced with security wiring, and do not have some one behind you to answer your questions ASAP, it will be a pretty good head ache.......... Also then remember that if you do get a wire crossed or wrong, you are not going to end up with bad sound or a blown stereo. You are going to end up getting your truck towed to a mechanic and having to pay to have it removed, fixed, then re-installed.... Tuned55 on 12/8/2004 16:56:30 Thanks for all the imput. I have decided to stay awy from a remote install and leave it to those who know. I didn't have an idea it was so involved. She's too old for Santa any ways ;o) Thanks for the help, again. Tuned55 ttocs on 12/8/2004 20:50:15 I am not saying that you should not as I do not know how much you know. If you are comfortable around a dash(with your feet over your head for the whole time lol) then we can help you through it. I just want people to know what they are getting into. Security can be a real pain.......... swez on 12/8/2004 21:21:13 AMEN to that one... feet on head rest and head by the brake peddle.. inversion therapy here. Swez PS I would not attempt this one either, unless I had a small friend with skills and knowledge on the matter. ttocs on 12/9/2004 10:56:38 don't live near phoenix do ya?
