I"m looking for an upgrade to my head unit.... so far the ones i'm interested in so far are: Alpine CDA-9830 http://www.carstereomall.com/store/store.cgi?command=listitems&pos=0&type=search2&search=alp-cda9830 Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X679 http://www.acaraudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_29&products_id=1300 Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP http://www.mmxpress.com/Pioneer/cdplayers.htm does anybody have any experience with any of these? i've only had experience with pioneer but any comments? thanks in advance Replies (8) uochronos on 12/4/2004 15:45:07 all fine HU's Alpine, pioneer premier, and kenwood have to be some of the best HU's you can get comparing them isnt easy. i suggest you goto a web site like cartoys.com or somewhere else that sells all 3 of them and use the compare option to see all the features side by side. if none of them have any extra features that catch your eye that the others dont. then i would suggest just buying which ever is the best value. i have played around with both the alpine HU and the pioneer and both seemed very effective and good features.. the alpine had a few advanced features the pioneer did not. but both seemed solid. i have not had a chance to tinker with any higher end kenwoods latly... so i dont know about them. Chronos sounds on 12/4/2004 22:23:02 i was leaning towards kenwood because of the price and also since it has 5 volt for preouts. the Pioneer one seems really nice but it's also a little out of my budget, but if that is worth the money then i would go for it. The alpine, i've never had any experience and from what i've read most of you like alpines. My goal is to have a good SQL system. I'm planning on having a component system in the front powered by an amp. and have the rear powered by the HU. I also plan to have a sub as well. I like to be able to tweak the sound so i would like to have good features but at the same time i would like it to be simpler. I was looking at the pioneer one because it had a mic to help out with it if i understood it correctly. UKinstaller on 12/4/2004 22:42:38 these past couple years, kenwood hasn't been producing as good of a product as they used to. we get customers that come in all the time with broken head units that are less than two years old. i say go with alpine. some of the best radios on the market. -UK Victor on 12/4/2004 23:20:25 You can add this one to the comparison as well.. http://www.blaupunktusa.com/NR/rdonlyres/EE0C18A9-51E9-41F5-8B4F-14B76A2E3744/4226/BremenMP75.pdf comments...??? Victor... sounds on 12/7/2004 03:00:05 what's your opinion on the alpine HU that i was looking at? any other suggestions for which alpine HU to go for? i'm willing to pay up to about 375 dollars for a HU so let me know if there's any other models i should be looking at cplkittle on 12/7/2004 09:43:30 I would avoid the kenwood HU, we sell them, but have problems with them. Kenwood and JVC both have undersized power supplies. They work well for a year or so, then cut out after 30-45 minutes of use. Also read the preout voltage specs carefully, some have 5v preout for front and rear RCA outs, but it's not 5v each, it's 5v total to be split between the 4. those sneaky bastards will fool you any way they can. If you have 375 to spend I would recommend the CDA 9827. The features are: AI Net ( can controll xm and changers through HU) remote MP3 / WMA CD Text XM ready 3 preouts (f, r, s) 4v each and it has a nice blue illumination, cosmetic-wise, my favorite alpine HU Victor on 12/7/2004 14:36:16 If you looking for Alpine CDA 9827 you can get it for $179 here http://thewholesalematrix.zoovy.com/product/ALPCDA9827 and if you got $375 to spend u can get a much upgraded unit the Alpine CDA 9835 http://thewholesalematrix.zoovy.com/product/ALPCDA9835 Victor... sounds on 12/7/2004 18:15:02 cplkittle, The HU that you recommend doesn't have a EQ built-in.... do you suggest an external equalizer or don't really need one?
