my front are 4x10s.... i was looking into getting a 6.5" component but am having a hard time finding adaptors or kick panel (92 grand am) so i was wondering if 4" component system are worth looking? or should i try to find a place that can make custom kick panels and go with 6.5" system?

A 4" based component system will give you good mids and highs in the front stage, but don't expect much bass from them. They should be fine above 100 Hz. But much lower than that, the 4" woofer will be hard pressed to deliver distortion free performance below that.

Here, the rear channel speakers can be used for midbass for added low end reinforcement. Depending on the size speakers used in the back and their location, you may get pretty good results in the MB range. (50-150 Hz.) Or, go full range if you want MB/highs in the rear channels.

If you add a powered sub to the mix, this will cover the low end bass well. Subs operate between ~35-100 Hz well.

If you really want more low end performance up front, custom kicks are the best option. However, MTX, Q-Logic and probably several other have kicks that may fit your vehicle.
