skipping speakers from amp.(This is getting expensive)

Alright lets try to explain this. I bought a 500 watt sony explode amp. I hooked it to a 12'' sub. It was working fine exept for one of my rca lines seemed like it was bad. Because when I hooked it in it would cut the speakers out. I went and bought a new rca line and hooked it up. I also ran speaker wires to the back speakers of my car. When I turnrd it on, my rear speakers were skipping. I thought maybe I ruined another rca cable. But when hooked into both bottom imputs both didn't skip. But when hooked into the top imputs the sub and the rear speakers would skip with either line. I unhooked the rear speakers to see if it would help. It still skipped on the top imput for the sub. By the time I was done. Both imputs skipped with both rca lines. no matter where you hook it. I am clueless as to whats wrong now.
I've had this happen to me once with my old amp and the set of subs that 12'' goes to. I fried a cd player when it happend. The subs went crazy and my cd player heated up so much I ripped it out of the dash. It actually burned my hand. But this didn't happen this time. They are also out of the box rca cables. The amp is 2 days old and less then an hour of use. The sub I know had over 800 watts going to it for a couple months when the other blew and the rear speakers are 6x8 150 watt pioneer speakers. The head unit is a 200 watt pioneer. The amp is a 500 watt sony explode.

If you could also shed some light on why my old cd player had a melt down.

I am totally confused on this one... can we break the topic up a bit and add a few key details not mentioned. Then, we may be able to help you figure out what's up here?

1. Amp, sub and HU model #'s please
2. Are you running the 4 interior speakers off the HU only and them sub amp off RCA's?
3. Does the Pioneer HU get hot too?

The old HU was probably pulling too much current at the amplifier stage due to low speaker ohmic loads or shorted speaker wiring. This is common in front door panel speaker installs if care is not taken to ensure all wires are clear of body metal when installed. This is true at the speaker itself as welll as wires that feed the speakers. One small scrape of the wire insulation, hitting bare metal is enough to cause a short.

Say more please,
Swez
