Do any of you guys use AOL instant messanger or anything like that. I'd like to message you guys so I can ask questions in a conversation style. I would really appreciate it.

yeah, this question has been brought up a few times before, but thats why the forum is here, a few of us have tried this on other forums, and need our privacy sometimes. if you give your screen name or email out in a public situation like this, you get flooded with questions, and this sometimes defeats the purpose of the forum alltogether. i was once an advocate of this idea, but from experience i have changed my mind

I think its a decent idea. It doesn't negate the need for a forum it just makes it easier for someone if they need a real quick response on something and can't wait for a reply on a forum. So if anyone needs to ask me something my AIM name is sipsjay

Same experience here... if one party knows the other party well, IM can be faster and cover more ground. But getting flooded with a bunch of questions in a scattergun manner is not only frustrating, it also leads to mistakes as what is asked, then answered in that format... can easily get all fouled up and open to much misinterpretation.
Here in a forum, you get a good check & balance of inputs from several knowledgable people. None of us knows every detail about installs and applications, so a team approach nets superior results and thre is a written document trail to refer back to later.

PS IM is fine if both parties are very well versed in the topic and understand each others mind set and goals. Other wise, you can get a "FUBAR" response and really get messed up as a newbie.
