I recently bought a new stereo and was pumping it with out a problem for about a month. Recently it has been blowing the inline fuse (yellow wire) every time I turn it up past a moderate volume. The fuse in the wire is only a 1 amp fuse, but that is the recommended fuse and I know the dangers of exceeding this ampage. Will I have to completely replace the whole wire and fuse or is there a simple fix? Replies (7) UKinstaller on 11/19/2004 17:56:00 what kind of stereo is it?? most stereos use a 10 amp fuse. 1 seems very small and could very well be the problem. -UK uochronos on 11/19/2004 18:37:21 agreed 1 amp seems very small.... infact i dont see how that could be the recommended fuse for the power wire. please let us know what model and bradn this is and we can give you some more indepth awnser... also check and make sure there is no short in the wire. also make sure you have a good ground. dont use the factory ground. run the ground wire stright to the body of the car. the fire wall usualy works nicly. sand a small spot to bare metal drill a small hole and use a self taping sheet metal screw to secure it. you would be surprised how often a bad ground can be the culprit of something... chance are this is a shrot somewhere or the wrong size fuse ebing used. Chronos MattyJay on 11/19/2004 18:58:08 Its a Pioneer DEH-P4690 It has a 10amp power rating, but this line is only for the continuous power supply. I'll check the ground, but i did bolt it to the body of the car, so unless that came loose, I'm not sure. The actual unit has a 10amp fuse in the back of it, but the actual wire itself has a 1amp fuse in it. The red wire doesn't blow (The one connected to the electric terminal.) I'm going to have a poke around now, but any help would be muchly appreciated. uochronos on 11/19/2004 19:09:02 hmmm thats an odd fuse to blow...,. defaintly check for shorts in the wire itself.. also this could be a problem internal in the deck unfortunatly could be trying to pull too much current. if thats the case then its warranty time. other then shorts i'm at a loss for other awnsers i would wait for swez or ttocs one of the others here who have more knowledge in this area. Chronos Pinch on 11/20/2004 02:00:05 Wait a sec. My understanding of that yellow wire is that it is sort of the aorta of your deck. ie. That wire is responsible for supplying main power to the deck which can be turned into sound and then amplified and sent out to the speakers. The red wire is a low amperage "turn on" wire used to tell the deck it is time to do it's job when the key is on. That said, a one amp fuse is hardly sufficient supply for a deck capable of supplying something like 22 watts RMS to 4 speakers. To be perfectly honest, I'd see where that wire is fused in the car, swap that out to a 10 A and bypass the one near the deck all together. Pinch swez on 11/20/2004 02:48:38 The Yellow constant 12 volt line is only there to retain station memory and clock functions. So, it is very possible to need only 1A worth of fusing to do that job. The main power line (Red) goes to ACC/IGN and supplies adequate power for the amps and features in the HU If it worked well before and now it's blowing, something is not kosher here. I would look for wire chaffing on that line or just install a new one. If the fuse still blows, something in the HU has gone south. Comments? Swez ttocs on 11/20/2004 11:49:02 I am afraid non of us are familiar with that car. Worst case run a new pwr wire to the fuse box... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
