Hey guys, nice set up you got going on here. I am trying to get my amp going so i can have some bass in my car. I have the stuff wired up all good and when i tested the ground and the power cable, it shows 12 volts dead on usually. The remote wire however is not doing something right. I connected it to what i think is the ground wire for my Kenwood MP922(i think thats the letters of it, but its 922) and straight back to the rmt part of my amp. My amp just goes on and the off again, and i cant figure out why. When i unplug the remote wire from the headunit straight to the power cable in the back where the amp is, it powers on for about 5 seconds now but never stays on or goes to the green light, just stays in the "protection" red light. Also the voltometer shows 6.5volts when connected to the remote/power and the ground, as soon as i pull the remote wire away, it jumps back up to 12...what the hell? Replies (11) Victor on 11/17/2004 23:49:55 u just said that u connected the remote wire from the hu to the ground of the amp....am i right?? lol.. why wud u want to do that...??? connect the remote wire from the HU to the remote terminal on the amp.. and both the hu and the amp should be well grounded to the frame of the car.. run your powercables for the amp and the HU directly from the battery and fuse( i dont mean connecting them, ,, i mean putting a fuse of appropriate value to each of the power cable, so that incase more current is drawn it wud blow off and not harm anything.) them appropriately near the battery.. do this.. and let us know if u still have the problem comments...?? Victor... ttocs on 11/18/2004 00:19:00 welcome to the forum. the remote wire should be blue, or blue with white stripe on the deck. I am a little confused on what you have wired as well though. Worst case wire it to the +12v switched wire behind the deck(red). frossi on 11/18/2004 01:22:23 what i wired it to wasnot the ground. It was the rmt terminal on the amp and what im assuming is the remote wire on the hu. I connected it straight from the rmt terminal on my amp to the 12v power on my amp to see if it would turn on thinking the cable might be bad and not telling the amp to "wake up". I will try the blue with white stripped wire and let yall know...otherwise im still super confused. UKinstaller on 11/18/2004 01:37:54 tap into the red wire behind the radio and see what it does. that's your ignition wire, which is a switched 12v as well. -UK frossi on 11/18/2004 02:16:59 Ok so i found the right remote wire i think, the blue one with a white stripe. The amp stays on the whole time the headunit is on, and off when i turn off the HU...however it still stays on the redlight in the "protection" light...doesnt move to the green one. usually did that after about 3 to 5 seconds max, now doesnt more to green light at all....cant figure out what else to do? Also even though the amp comes on i notice that it only gets 6volts when the remote wire is connected, but 12 when i unhook it, but then it shuts off...wth? is there a wire i am missing? I have the ground connected, the power, and now the remote. The RCAs are in the right spot and im stumped. uochronos on 11/18/2004 02:41:14 there are usualy 2 wires that are blue the Remote wire and the power antena wire. sounds like you have the remote wire. as for it being 6volt not 12 i'm unsure. However the fact that it wont go out of protection mode is not a good sign... does sound still coem out the speaker? Chronos frossi on 11/18/2004 02:44:28 well the amp only powers on the sub, not the speakers and the speakers work fine...i just want some friggin' bass!!! I dont have a power antenna so thats not a big deal.... i just dont get why when i plug in the remote wire, it works and goes off with the HU and everything, but makes the voltage go down to 6.... My amp would usually stay on the red light when not enough power is getting to it to turn all the way on, just on... thats the case im thinking now.... uochronos on 11/18/2004 03:04:36 umm wheather you have a power antena or not the HU prolly has a wire for it lol.... anyway this is an odd problem... and by speakers i was refering to the sub(s) they are speakers too. anyway i would run along the remote wire make sure there is no break in the insulation anywhere and that ist not grounding out. Second make sure the power wire and the ground both have goo connections. make sure the power wire is not lose at the amp, battery or inline fuse. make sure the ground is short less then 3 feet. make sure that it is bolted to the body of the car nowhere else and make sure it is a bare metal bolt not paints and make sure the area its touching is sanded threw the paint and just bare metal. do you have the install manual for this deck? or can you get me a link to it. because i cant find it on kenwoods site or anything. int here it well say what color the remote wire is. I cant put my finger on what wrong here but we well find it by checking things till we find whats wrong. Good luck. let me know if none of that works. Chronos frossi on 11/18/2004 03:16:45 OMG I GOT IT!!! Finally! I was so sick of the grounding being unsure i connected some wire i had left over and connected it to the ground on my battery...as soon as i connected that wire into the ground terminal for my amp, the green light came on and glourious bells rang and i got married... well the green light came on and the sub started pumping at least! YAY! Thanks guys for all your help, sorry i couldnt have been more professional with this...but i do know the place to come to if i need help or have a tip for others....OH IM SOO HAPPY! uochronos on 11/18/2004 03:22:23 woohoo glad to hear it.... i was leaning towards it being a ground problem... you dont want a ground going from the battery to the amp though ground should not be more then 3 feet. so i suggest finding a suitable place near the amp just make sure it is bare metal this time and a good self taping sheet metal screw that doesnt have paint on it. Chronos Glad to hear tis working swez on 11/18/2004 08:15:48 The reason your amp would go into protect mode was that it was getting low voltage (6 volts) from the main power line to ground. Usually a poor amp ground will cause that. To correct this issue for good, clean a spot in the floor pan near the amp to bare metal. Then run your ground wire to that. You will not need the long wire to BAT ground anymore, if you have a good grounding system from BAT - to chassis. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
