Amp Kit and Ground Wire

Alright guys, a couple of questions. How big of a difference is there in a $25 wal mart 8 gauge kit compared to an 8 gauge $70 Best Buy amp kit. Also, where would i ground my amp in a 93 Sunbird trunk. I connected it to a bolt on the bottom of the metal trunk, but for some reason i dont think its getting all the juice it can get. I think it is either my amp kit or my ground, because i hooked up my amp to my 97 Blazer which has a 70 dollar kit, and ran the speaker wire into my sub in my Sunbird and it was louder. So basically is it worth the money for the expensive amp kit, and where do i ground the wire.

According to my calculations, the difference is $45.00 in profit to someone elses pocket. SMILE

Wire is basically wire... how much you pay for it really depends more on mark up profit than anything else. Assuming the same type of conductor (Copper) and a similar resistance per linear foot, the rest is really marketing. (or should I say ...mark upping) A bit more to it.... but why give you a $10.00 answer for a $1.00 question ???

Also, about grounding an amp, best to go to a bare metal body ground attachment. Meaning, remove the paint, rust whatever... until you hit bare metal. Then attach your ground wire there and put a dab of silicone over it to prevent rust later.

Is best to use proper wire gage eye type crimp connector here to and make sure you give it a good scrubbing with a wire brush or sand paper, to remove any loose oxides. Try to keep that ground wire short too.

I agree that there may be minor differences in "power" wire they are basically the same but not $45 in difference.

Another note that I think I should add is to spray some conductive corrosion/rust inhibitor whereever you go bare metal on the interior. If your in a very humid area like where I live you may end up regretting it.

I always use a multimeter when finding good ground. If you have one available or access to one I suggest using it to test your ground before you go agead and sand or screw in any specific area. Just hook up the positive Red to the power wire and black to wherever you plan on grounding to it should read from 11.5-13v and always do this with the car off.
