Wiring amp to factory deck

I read the article about it being possible and how to. I know you would recommend buying an aftermarket eck and I do have one, just dont want to install it in my truck. I read that the HI level input isnt the way to go. So would you recommend splicing into a speaker line and adding RCA connects to hook up the the amp. Or would you just use the HI lever input?

RCA's all the way man. you can get a decent line out converter for as little as 15-20 bucks, and you get good, clean outputs from them. as you have already mentioned, though, they are no comparison for good outputs on a good aftermarket head unit.

I read up on the LOC's. Im running about 250 RMS x 1. The LOC's I seen run about 80 watts per channel. Im going to run a 2 channel amp bridges to 1 sub. What is the best LOC and where can I get one? I rather it be somewhere locally, does a franchis Ie. Circuit City have any good ones?

ignore those 80 watts per channel. it's not like how it sounds.

i work at circuit city, and we carry an excellent Tsunami LOC that runs about $22. if it were more expensive, i'd say check the internet or something, but when it's only $22, it's really not worth the trouble.

I actually was looking at that one. Ill purchase it tomorrow. Ok this is my last question. I have hooked up everything before but never used the LOC. To hook it up all I need to do is splice the LOC to my rear speaker R+ to R+ and R- to R- then plug the RCA from the LOC to the amp? I know that particular LOC from Circuit City has 2 channel (2rca) does the other end offer 4 wires R+ R- L+ L-? I think I have this down, again thanks for your help

Ok this is the LAST question. Where would you recommend running my remote turn on at? Hooking it up to a fuse in the fuse box? Finding a wire on the radio? which wire to the radio?

good deal.

to hook up the LOC....

first of all, depending on the car, it might be easier to tap in behind the radio. whichever is easier to get to is fine.

the LOC will have a white + and - and a grey + and -. tie the positives together and the negative together, because you will only be tapping into one speaker. tap into the speakers respective + and -, and that's it. the LOC will have a ground wire coming out, but you do NOT have to ground it.

and i assume that since you are using a LOC you are using the factory head unit?? you're going to need a remote wire. all you have to do is to tap into an existing 12v switched wire in the car. what kind of car is it??

dont mean to interupt here and this isnt my area of expertise. but my under standing of a LOC is it has 4 wires 2 + and 2 -- right? well if you twist both - and both + so there is jsut one of each and hook to one speaker. then you lose fade control..... the proper way would be using both right and left speaker wires woudlnt it?

yeah you definitely want to tap into two speakers if possible, but that becomes a problem if you aren't tapping in behind the radio. the good thing about doing it the way i mentioned is that you only lose control over balance, not fade. unless he is going to be messing around with the balance setting, i wouldn't worry about it.

Ok I had enough time before it got dark to get my power wire to the battery. I found where Im going to ground the amp. Im having 2 problems well 3. When I unplugged my battery it locked up my radio and I bought it used so I dont know the code so now I have to take it in the GM place to get it. 2nd, Since im in a bined and cant get my factory unit out to hook up the LOC I was going to just run some speaker wires from the front door speakers back to the LOC. 3rd I have NO idea where to hook up the remote turn on at. I have a 98 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. What wire should I try first? I dont have but can get access to a volt reader to test it if need be. Also I am running a 2 channel amp and Im going to use one sub. To bridge it do I need to plug up both (left and Right) RCAS into the amp to? That would mean I need to run 2 different speakers using all four wires on the LOC? Thanks

the front of the dash that surounds the instrument cluster, as well as the radio simply pulls off. I start at the top and then work my way around, shouldn't even nee any tools. AFter that the radio may not even need tools to remove it. Sometimes there are two small tabs you push down on and the radio slides out, otherwise there will be 2 - 7mm(9/32") screws holding the radio in. It really cannot get any easier, shouldn't take more then 5 min to pull the stock deck, much easier then getting to the door speakers.....

do NOT run speaker wires from the door speakers to the back. that will make this job soooo much harder than it needs to be. take the dash off, as ttocs mentioned it's very easy to get apart.
you can hook your LOC up behind the radio, and also get your remote wire there. on the factory harness, there will be a yellow wire. that is the color of the ignition wire on that year GM's. carefully tie your remote wire into the yellow and you will be good to go. also, there will be two blue wires that are next to each other, one is blue and the other is light blue. this is your back left speaker wire. the darker blue is your positive, and the lighter is your negative. use that for your LOC.
