What does a spool of 0 guage wire run for per ft.? Is $1.99/ ft. a decent price? THINK Thanks, Daniel Replies (11) danielm87 on 11/15/2004 16:40:42 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5732409094&fromMakeTrack=true I've got 8 guage now for my 400@4ohm amp, but will upgrade sooner or later and was curious if this was a good deal. uochronos on 11/15/2004 16:59:43 it matters the wire... i paid 39cents a foot for my 8 guage. if its crappy wire then 1.99 a foot sounds horrible but if its high grade oxygen free high wire count etc then that seems like a fair price. it really matters i cant see what wire your talking about hehe. Chronos danielm87 on 11/15/2004 17:23:44 Yeah, that stuff in the link is high-grade oxygen free yada yada yada,, meaning that 1.99 is a decent price. Thanks uochronos on 11/15/2004 17:41:04 didnt realize the link in the second post was to the 0 guage it says very very little about the wire as in who makes it, wire count, does it have a nice insulation? is it oxygen free? etc etc... i would say off ebay 1.99 isnt great. from a local store with over head perhaps.... i think top of the line street wires 2 guage was only like 1.99 a foot from car toys... if you go with one of there good midrange wires its only like 1-1.50 a foot. i would check local shops first. Chronos danielm87 on 11/15/2004 17:49:08 Ya, i asked the selling company, it is high grade. I do intend to check everywhere else possible before buying anything, thanks for the help uochronos on 11/15/2004 18:09:08 well get spec on it hehe "high grade" can mean alot... no company would tell ya "ya its crap we are just trying to push it" they are going to tell you what they are selling is good stuff. the fact they have no manufactuer listed no specs at all. does not inspire confidence in me at least. Chronos danielm87 on 11/15/2004 18:14:41 hehe, Chronos i appreciate your interest in helping me, you never give up! Yes it is indeed high grade, oxygen free, well insulated, etc. swez on 11/15/2004 19:12:57 Zero gage wire (1/0) is pretty heavy duty stuff. A thought come to mind using welding cable as it has a very robust insolation jacket, many stranded Cu wire and usually pretty cheap too. A few guys I know have used it with high satisfaction reported. The only drawback, not very pretty. What I saw on the site link, says little other than generic information. Probably a good reason not to name a brand there. What you can do, is either buy a small quantity or request a free sample of the product and see what's what. Swez PS Knukonceptz sells their 1/0 wire for $2.25/ft. Very good quality product too. http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Power%20Wire danielm87 on 11/15/2004 19:38:34 Yeah, i figured it was cheap cuz of the lack of info and etc. Thanks Swez i'll look into your "alternate" wire option. And i plan on upgrading sooner or later to a JL Audio 1000/1 amp with an ES12P Bahn (of course) that i have sitting in my house. Thats why i was checking out 1/0 gauge wire in the first place. Also, sooner or later, i'll be in the market for a big ALT. I dont know much about applications for alternators, but is a specific application needed for every make and model and year vehicle? 1987 Chevy P/U, anyone know where i could find a 180+ ALT for the above job? swez on 11/15/2004 19:44:38 There out there.... but not cheap either. POwer Lifter is our resident guru on SPL upgrades. Stinger & Ohio Generator come to mind as options. But these babies are not cheap. Swez ttocs on 11/16/2004 02:05:59 $2 a foot fer 0 awg is cheap.......... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
