My car is a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Its my first car so i have never dealt with stereos before. I have about $500 to spend on the system. If anyone can make suggestions on good equipment to buy for my price range, or cheaper as long as it sounds good, I would be really grateful.

you say you have $500 to spend on a system. do you have a HU or factory cd player that youre using, or do u plan on getting one. because that $100+ makes a difference in planning a system

Need more info on what you mean by a "SYSTEM"...

Do you mean sub and amp for bass?
Upgrade the stock HU and/or speakers?
Adding aftermarket speaker, amps and HU?

Say much more about what you want here as we can only help you with adequate details.

FYI: Since you have a modest budget right now, plan to build a system as you have time and funds. Starting with a good sub and amp might be your first consideration initially. Then build up to your ultimate system goals as you can.

We generally recommend high quality gear over the "cheap and dirty", fill up your car with junk products as you will outgrow them fast and end up buying better products later. So, go quality gear the 1st time and build off these as you can.

Finally, we have a good knowledge base of low priced, high performance gear accumulated in the threads of this site. Just browse a while and see if you like something already proven to be a winner.

PS Good planning now, will save you tons of time and wasted money later. Buying cheap products that do not deliver, is a poor strategy. Do it right the first time and be proud of your investments! SMILE

exactly, thats what i ended up doing. since i had a job at one time, i ended up buying a quality amp and sub combo first. after that, i moved on to interior speakers and i got the amps for my interiors for free :) just helps to know ppl that benefit you. but i'd say that 200 bucks is a good start for a sub and amp combo. look at ebay as you can find some great deals there.

this wouldnt be too bad

This is probably what I'd do.

Amp - http://www.outerlimitsaudio.com/product.cfm?ProductID=2382 289.00

Sub - http://www.acoustic-visions.com/Shiva.htm 125.00

Box - Build your own for around 50.

Good choices.... both very good products.

The Shiva is a 4/8/16 ohms DVC, likes a 1.25 cf sealed enclosure and will net out slightly more than 300 RMS @ 4 ohms. If you get the urge for a bit more bass later, can always add a 2nd Shiva in a twin enclosure. You get the full 600 watts RMS + from that amp and pick a few more dB of SPL as well.

If you need technical application notes on the Shiva, the website had plenty to keep you happy as you read and learn more.
