getting a new vehicle... a late 80's-early 90's jeep cherokee.

what i want is a SPL oriented system with the ability to get goo SQ in the high frequencies.

The lay out i'm picturing is as follows

1 Kicker L5 12" sub

2 kicker comp VR 8" woofers

2 sets of good MA audio components

a nice clarion head unit

the 12" sub well be mounted in a custom box facing the rear it well be ported and tuned to about 35hz.... the 2 8" woofers well be in seperate cham, bers of the same box but pointed forwar and above the seats but off to the sides now the rear components well be mounted next to the 8" wofers in its own sepearte chamber... it well be alot of work but worth it.

i figure 75watt x 4 to the 2 sets of components and 200watts to each 8"woofer and 400-500watts to the 12" sub...

i'm going to run 2 4 channel Class T amplifiers... so i well get the most output for my power consumption.

the 12" sub well be tuned at 35hz - 60hz the 8" sub well run from 60hz-150hz. then the components well pick up from there.....

any comments or concerns people can see with this install let me know.

it would add alot of extra punch if you would save a lil more and get two L5 8's insted of the comps but yeah thats gonna be awsome

naw the L5 8" doesnt have as good a response in the higher frequencies say over 100hz... at least on paper...

other wise i would go with the L5 8"

i think the pure look of the design along with the amzing sound well be impresive... this well be my first install where i'm going to run it all right from the first step. it should turn out buitifull.

hmm....a nice choice of equipments... but just got one concern ..if you say u need a nice amount of SQ performance too...

please give it a second thought.. cause for SQ performance you need a better speaker placement that just dumping everything at the back of ur car..

for SQ- getting the bass upfront is also very important issue along with good staging and imaging...

i think u know a bit about 12v electronics..and got a sense of picking good equipment..

it wud be great if you give some thought to car acoustics and the staging and imaging needs..

you will really enjoy hours of music in you car if u take care of speaker placement along with proper frequency distribution to your comps.. subs.. and especially for the 8" 's u wanna use..

i am just inquisitive.. can u please tell me how and why did u pick to play 2- 8"'s..??

comments...??

The only thing I see here are balanced staging issues.

Having all the rear components up high (above the seats) and front Comps in door or kicks (down low), it will be very easy to have the rear stage system, much louder than the front stage. The rear stage speakers (3-ways) will be at head level and firing forward to your head.
Angling them to the sides may help, if the truck is wide enough to expand the rear stage.

Seems like a very nice set of components you are planning to use here. Plenty of amp versitility and power available too. However, balancing the front and rear stages will be very tricky on this one. The part that concerns me the most, is 200 RMS each 8" MB driver. That's a lot of power for MB fill, unless the drivers used are horribly inefficient.

Do take pics and document your progress... this sounds like a neat project with a few minor complications.

yes swez the issue of the rear being over powering has been considered.. 1 i well be using my EQX in this vehicle that well help balance it out. secound i well tone down the rear components gain....

as for the 200watts i was unsure of power needed realyl. looks like the amp i well be using well give the 8" subs 300watts each at 4ohms wire together so if i got 2 4ohm subs i could net 8ohm and get 150watts rms to each 8" sub a bit more managable.

basicaly for this setup i'm going for mainly SPL level. but i want it too look extremly nice and have good SQ in the high frequencies.

as for the front speakers. what do people think about mounting them in the dash? or in the upper door with a custome fiberglass enclosure for them? so that they well be higher up... any comments on that?

also the rear components wel be at a slightly upward angle so they wont be focusing right at your head. and that should cause them to be a bit calmed down and not as over powering.

thanks alot for all the input so far... just got a digital camera so once i start getting it all put together and pieces bought i well take all kinds of pictures... i well prolly put them all on a seperate personal web site and just throw a link here and show the process step by step... i'm sure i well learn alot from this install and hopefully can teach alot in the aftermath from it hehe.
