i am in the market for a new set of speakers for my little truck and was just wondering what you guys suggested. i talked it over with a few guys on the chat and there were so many brand names flying around i was wondering what some of the other guys on there think. i don't really have a set price limit but am looking to spend around $200 canadian, i was looking at buying off the net, preferably a place that will pay shipping of the shipping to canada won't be expensive. they don't really have to be 6.5s because i was thinking about builing a wooden baffel anyways, but i want a decent set of preferably comp. speakers that will deliver clear highs and won't be distorted at high sound. also they have to be fairly durable because they'll likely be bounced around quite a bit seeing as how hard i have to slam my door (which they will be in). i already have an amplifier, alpine MRV-t505 that should put 50 watts RMS per channel at 4Ohms, or 100 watts RMS per channel at 2Ohms. I have a seperate amp running a pair of orion 10" subs that should have the low end frequencies covered but i really need a pair of speakers that can deliver excellent SQ and high end frequencies. any suggestions? Replies (11) ttocs on 11/9/2004 02:09:29 we cannot really tell you what you will like. It is best to go and listen to speakers with cd's that you are familiar with. Pick a couple that you like and then we can guide you. There are a bunch of brands out there, and each person likes something different, for different reasons...... oldmazda on 11/9/2004 18:24:41 well i know that is what i would like to do but my problem is that in such a small community there is not a whole lot of options and i was hoping to get a pair of the net that likely wouldn't be carried in a store around here. and i figured that you guys would likely have some suggestions for me through your extensive knowledge and that you've probably heard just about everything and i've heard next to nothing. like i said i am just looking for crisp sounding highs and i mostly listen to rap and country so if anybody knows of a good set i'd love to hear what you've got to say. swez on 11/9/2004 21:47:31 Try Zeb audio. The have CDT Classic DL-61a for ~$150.00/pr. Several here have them and good reports all around. They also have MA Audio comps for a bit cheaper. From the specs I see on them, they too should be excellent performers if you make a surface mount door enclosure... great idea! Swez oldmazda on 11/10/2004 02:00:15 i really like the price tag on those pair of MA speakers, but was wondering how they are. has anyone heard them or had personal experiences with them that could tell me how they sound, and how they would hold up when put through a little bit of abuse :) also do you think that its worth the extra money to go for the CDTs, do they handle more power of sound clearer or what makes them cost more? alanjlamore on 11/10/2004 09:17:04 I have the CDT's from suggestions that I've gotten from here. They sound awesome. Much better than the Polk MOMO speakers I had before them. From what I've heard, these compete with $300+ speakers, and are so much cheaper only because of a mistake with the paint design somewhere (I couldn't even see a problem with the paint, plus I can't see them anyway in the door of my truck). Many many people are very satisfied with these. I did a google search a while back and saw a lot of other reviews on these where people were very happy with them. They handle 90watts rms, I've had them hooked up to 75w rms and they sounded awesome. Now I have them hooked up to 125w rms (with gain adjusted properly) and they sound incredible. I've also heard good things about MA audio, but I don't have any experience with them. Victor... Victor on 11/10/2004 10:04:33 http://www.thecarstereo.com/product/product_view.php?product=CS6H01001 missed out on this one. a nice price too.. swez on 11/10/2004 11:26:18 Think the CDT's are probably more natural than the Infinity offering noted. Also, Zeb sells the same MA for $79.00/pr. ($100.00 at cs.com) Swez Crum on 11/10/2004 17:53:15 The Zeb also sells on eBay. The funny thing is that the same MA speakers offered on the Zeb for $79, are $70 on eBay. . . http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32819&item=5730258817&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW They wind-up at ~79 after shipping, but I don't think the offer off thezeb.com includes shipping. Let us know whichever way you go and how your speakers turn out. Crum oldmazda on 11/11/2004 02:48:31 well as things are looking as of now i really like the looks of the MA gear, its just a better price and from what i've heard i don't really know if the CDTs are worth the extra cash. i just really wanna make sure that i'm not making a bad decision because thats the thing about buying of the internet i don't really know what they sound like and am really relying on you guys to guide me through so that i will be happy with my purchases and not end up having to upgrade really soon. so if anybody has heard these speakers and thinks i'm making a bad decision please tell me so that i don't end up regreting it. swez on 11/11/2004 09:43:54 I hear your concerns and agree with them as well. The fact you are willing to built enclosures for your front speakers, should be a big help in MB performance. When we have the ability to stabilize the cone movement, (a good enclosure) we get better MB performance than in free air door mount installs. That's why kick panels are so popular with SQ installs. Also, if you have some decent EQ functions in the HU or an outboard EQ, can shape the frequency response of even the cheapest of speakers to sound well above average. It's all about cone control to get a nice tight thump in MB and crisp clear highs. One thing I do like about these crossovers, you can adjust tweeter output dB and crossover frequency. These are soft dome tweeters as well. That will make them sound more natural as well. Metal dome tweeters are often very bright to almost harsh sounding to many. Depends on the listener and music you like best. Finally, if you don't like them, am sure they can be returned. If that is true, it's not a bad idea to check em out and figure out how to make them sound best in your truck. Swez PS One thing about audio, it's pretty subjective. Give 10 guys a chance to try the same product and do their own install, 3-5 will love them, 3-4 will hate them, the rest will just say... "hummm, better than stock, but not what I had hoped for."
