Engine Interference

Heres my deal...

Installled in my 95 Explorer I have a JVC KD-LH300 head, Stinger 1 farad cap, Punch 4040 powering 2 Alpine Type R's, and 2 Alpine Type S components. Another Punch 200 powers my Pioneer Premier TS-W1024 subs.

I plan on swapping my amps with Alpine V12s, and my subs for Type Rs.

Now here is my issue. I have annoying engine interference at low volume levels. After hearing it may be my wiring I gutted the entire car and ran all the wires neatly down the center of the vehicle. The noise is still there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also I plan on building a custom enclosure for my subs, does anyone have any tricks to map it out so it neatly fits directly behind my seats? I will be using Pro Box 5.0 for the enclosure specs.

That electrical noise is very common and often associated with 2 primary issues:

1. Improper grounding of the whole system. (HU, amps) Most installers neglect to install a body ground to the HU grounding wire. If you go to the stock harness, noise is often a problem.

2. Improper gain settings will all amplify noise as well. This HU has a max output of 4.0 volts from the RCA's. Am not sure how many RCA's come in this package, but your amp gains should be set pretty close to 4 volts. If much lower than 3.0 volt settings are used, amp will sound louder (to a point) but it will also amplify any noise signals that are riding on the RCA lines. (usually poorly grounded HU)

As for your new subs, which model do you plan on using and amp to power them? Knowing that, we can help you configure a custom enclosure that will fit into your ride. Are you shooting at high SPL, above average SQ or a blend of the 2?

Comments?

Thanks for the reply. Im going to look into that chassis ground when I get the chance. As for my new set of amps, I just got a MRV-F250, and I'm waiting my MRV-1505's delivery. As for subs, I'm getting 2 Type R SWR-1241Ds

I'm aiming for a sound quality which has deep accurate bass with an emphasis on clarity. I listen to everything from techno/house/drum n bass, to rock/rap, and even talk radio, so clarity is my ultimate goal.

I really want a box which huggs the contours of my trunk area, so I plan on doing a lot more than just fitting enclosure sizes. Thanks

did your truck have a "premium" system in it, and did you bypass the factry amp if it did?

Yeah, my truck had a premium sound system in it. I repair cars, and have done installations in the past, but not a multi-amp system like I am working on now. I bypassed the stock amp, but encountered problems which cooked my HU, Punch 200, and sent DC straight to my subs damaging them. My suggestion is have someone who knows wiring to help you out. A friend of mine bailed me out, and it turns out I only had a few connections messed up.

Did you get rid of the engine noise problem yet?
