first off dont work on it mad. no good well come from it. calm down take a night away from it and then go back to it. with that said

this could be many things could be an internal part went bad a bad wire, a bad ground, or a few other things. first what amp is it and what speakers are they and how did you try and wire them?

hmmm.. cool down faded.. you need to take some rest.. get back your senses together and then go back at it..

installing an audio system is a work of great patience.. if you jump at it its gonna go worse...

....regarding the series wiring i doubt that series wiring extracrts more power.. usually parallel wiring reduces the speaker impedence and extracts more power.. well leave it aside.. we can discuss that later... take a break and we can talk about it later...

please dont get excited and mess up with your expensive audio gear before consultint the forum.. or any professional installer..

Agreed! Never try to work on complex problems or troubleshooting issues when PO'd. It only gets worst.

When you cool off, get a Walkman and a patch cord as your audio source for the amp test.

1. Remove the present RCA's from the amp and plug the Walkman in

2. Set the amp gain to say 2 volts for intial tests

3. Use only 1 sub at a time when testing the amp

4. Make sure the LPF is set to ~80 Hz.

5. Make sure your power feeds and ground are correct

I have heard this complaint before. It was ground related as I recall. If I remember correctly, it was a severe ground loop issue between the HU and amps.

Can you give compete details on the amp, subs and how things are wired?

willing to bet you left something loose in the rewire. Re-check all connections. This would be easy to do if you have an ohm meter.

yeah i think i might just hafta get a new amp because i tried all morning to fix it and i wasnt mad or anything but it still didnt work and at first it was only channels 1/2 that wasnt working but now its all 4 my subs were going crazy and my cd player wasnt even playing a cd i dunno i just took it all out of my trunk cuz my amp sits on top of my sub box and so i just took it out until i can actually test it by like looking andother amp up or hooking mine up in my friends car but i might have to just get a new amp

We need a "coherant plan" of attack to really help you out well Faded. I would invite you to think about a budget, number and type of sub(s) you wish to use and your overall goal in this project. (knee jerk reactions, tend to lead to poor long term satisfaction and results)

Once we know the number and type of subs you plan to use, then choosing a solid amp to power your subs should be less of a moving target.

A few thought starters for you:

1. How much $$ do you wish to commit?

2. What is the target? (SPL, SQ or a blend of both) How much power is desired?

3. What do you have on hand now (equipment wise) to start off with and build onto over time?

4. What do you have room for in the next install?
===================================================
General Info:

As you already know, Class D MONO amps are cheaper, much more efficient and have less circuits to fail that 2/3/4/5 channel amps. Most D amps will have no trouble with a net 2 ohm load. There are a few that can do 1 ohm loads, but they tend to be more expensive, pull more current and harder to find.

Have you ever heard the theory that "Less is often best"? What I mean here, Keep It Simple Sam... less woofers means less cost, smaller overall enclosures and less wiring hassles.

A pair of solid 12's, in a well designed enclosure, will often out perform a larger array of cheap or under powerd subs. Lots of guys can run a single quality sub with potent amp and get great results. It's all about good design techniques of the enclosure, competent sub(s), a solid amp to run with and adequate power from the electricals to get the most from the system we choose.

OK, what gear do you have now... that is still useful to the next iteration
(version, revision) of this plan? Make, model #'s and a Mfg link are all very helpful. Knowing that, we can help you select an amp that will give you the performance you are willing to pay for.

Thanks for your inputs, helps us to help you better

thats what im prolly going to get it looks like a good set up im going to put it in a ported box facing me with my back seats taken out

Hummm, looked at the amps you listed and all are 2 or 4 channel amps. These are not the best choice for an efficient bass machine. If your subs are 300 RMS each, hard to find a high powered 4 channel amp (under $300.00) that will deliver more that 125 RMS per channel.

Again, which subs do you have now (make and model #) and how many? It sounds like you may have what? ... 4 x10's? Ohm ratings and # of voice coils would be most helpful to know. Comments?

Also, it sounds like you want to eventually add a larger sub to the system. A beefy 15" or dual 12's?

Finally, the better you plan ahead for upgrades, the less replacement of usable gear will be needed later.

Comments?

so im not looking for an amp that will power my 10's im looking for one that will power this 1 12" Power Acoustik and the 820wt Power Acoustik amp will push it fine and will go together i'll just put my 10's in my girl's car

Faded on 11/2/2004 18:48:02
if you find a 1channel Power acoustik 800wt or so amp thats about 90bucks that would be cool
this amp is 90bucks and its 820 and a 2 channel im wanting to be able to get both the amp and sub at the same time for christmas

Faded on 11/2/2004 18:49:44
about 200bucks is my limit but im wanting both amp and sub and the amp and sub i picked is only about 205 with shipping

swez on 11/2/2004 19:28:06
OK, those subs are pretty potent stuff. (700 RMS, 4+4 DVC's)

The amp you mentioned will provide ~460 watts RMS when bridged into mono or 230 RMS perchannel at 2 ohms. In short, a weak amp to power some pretty robust subs. Will it work? Yes, but make sure you use proper setup proceedures on the amp to limit distortion at full power. A badly clipping amp can take a dive in no time if it is constantly running in the high distortion.

Another amp fro PA to consider:

Product #: 1PA-LT1920/2
Channels: 2
RMS Power: 370x2 @ 4 ohms, 440x2 @ 2 ohms, 880 Bridged Mono @ 4 ohms
$169.99

A little hard shopping sould bring the price down too.

http://etronics.resultspage.com/display.php?p=Q&ts=dynamic&w=+Pwer+Acoustik+LT1920%2F2+&Store=+----the+amp&af=&oldaf=&isort=score $135.00

Try a google search for low e-tail prices or E-bay.

im just going with 1 12 so im sure that amp would push that 12 and if later i got an extra battery or something that would help the amp with wattage so i think thats what im gonna go with

swez on 11/2/2004 20:12:42
OK, that's more like it. Since this is a 700 watt, (RMS) 4+4 DVC, we should be looking at a Class D MONO amp. This will need to be ~600-750 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. Let's see what's out there in that power range and under $150.00.

Here:

1. http://www.thezeb.com/p-MA-Audio-M1889I-Mono-Subwoofer-Amplifier-102547.htm $162.00

2. Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18797&item=5729120419&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW $108.00 takes it immediately.

Great amp, 800 RMS @ 2 ohms, is Class D technology too. This is my pick for your application.
