Hooking up an amp question

My friend is getting a new car here soon, and she doesn't want to take the factory radio out of the car, but she still wants to be able to hook up the subs. Now I doubt there will be any type of RCA jacks coming out of the back of the radio. She said she went to a car audio store and they said there is some kinda adapter you would need to hook it up. What is the adapter, how do you install it, and where could I find it for cheap,

If this pending car has rear speakers and you can attach a set or wires to these speakers and feed them into the amp input section. Very easy to do, once you locate the speaker wires. Most amps have a high signal input which can accept speaker voltage level inputs and low signal inputs that require RCA connectors.

If you have an amp that only accepts RCA (low voltage signal) connections... the there is a device called a "Line Out Convertor" that will do the job. It converts speaker line levels to RCA line level voltages. Not very expensive (under $20.00) at most any good car audio shop or even WalMart. Better LOC's, have variable output adjustments... the cheaper ones do not.

How much sub amp power do you think she is considering? I ask as JBL amps have a neat feature. When using high voltage input circuits, the amp automatically detects an incoming speaker signals and turns on the amp automatically. Most amps require a separate +12 volt turn on signal (REMote) This means more wiring hassles when using stock HU's.

The other items you'll have to purchase, is a power feed line kit. This is a heavy gage wire from the battery (Pos) terminal, to a fuse link, then back to the amp. Need a matching gage ground wire from amp to a bare metal grounding point. near the amp. The gage wire used and fuse, depend on the power draw of the sub amp.

If you need more help, you've come to the right place, SMILE
