I am wondering if there is an easy way to go from a dual cd/tape factory head to a single cd after market head. I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar. Is there a special harness that I can get? I really dont want to use a RCA converter or have to run new wires. Anyone have advice? Replies (10) ttocs on 10/31/2004 01:16:32 The oval radio? There are kits for those. Ya have to run wire to the back of the car I think, at least ya do on the taurus....... The kit is high, over $50, but it is not hard...... cplkittle on 10/31/2004 22:23:39 you can also get a peripherial piece.. I forget the part number, but it takes the place of the relocation kit. markey99 on 11/1/2004 11:23:15 The deck is not oval it is a rectangle like most other decks. I can't find any harness to fit the car harness, I wasnt sure if anyone even makes one. Does anyone know? ttocs on 11/1/2004 13:51:04 if the deck is rectangular there should be no issues.. You need ford radio removal keys and the deck easily slides out from the front. Take the deck out and go to your local shop. There is a hrns for it, where have you looked? It is a ford hrns........ markey99 on 11/1/2004 16:37:22 Yes I have no problem getting the deck out. The harness I tried was from Auto zone and it was for my type of car. However with the tape and cd player the harness for a single cd player wont fit. So there is such a harness to go from a factory tape and cd unit to a aftermarket cd player? I havent heard of them? uochronos on 11/1/2004 19:03:44 so this is a 2din unit right meaning its twice the sice of a standard single CD player? If so conversion should be easy i bought mine for my 2003 ford ranger from auto zone and it worked fine. howvere you can likly get differnt ones from the local car audio chain or small store. cartoys sells them for around 20-30$ hoever you can easily talk them down a few bucks. chronos ttocs on 11/1/2004 19:11:01 "factory tape and cd unit to a aftermarket cd player? I havent heard of them?" I don't understand. You want to take the wiring that unplugs from the factory deck, and get that integrated into the new deck right? If that is the case then yes there is a hrns for it. The problem that you are more then likely running into is that ford/mercury could have 2, possably 3 different hrns in the car depending on if you have a "premium" system in the car. The only other option is that on some models the deck itself is just a display unit, and the amp and "guts" of the radio are in the trunk. I don't think that is the case with your car. As I said, take the deck out and take it in with you. This way you will be able to match the hrns by looking at the back of the deck. The hrns you buy should look exactly like the pins on the back of the deck. markey99 on 11/1/2004 22:44:32 Then what you are saying is, the cd player and the tape deck in the car have two seperate harnesses. What I need to do is, only use the harness that runs the cd player to run my after market cd player? uochronos on 11/2/2004 00:14:28 it matters they well have a harnes specificaly for your unit. like victor said take it with you and ask. should be able to locate one, ttocs on 11/2/2004 08:51:52 there should only be one hrns, for both units.......
