this sounds doable...
firs off would be a decent Head Unit(HU) Pioneer, alpine, eclips, clarion, etc all make good head units. you well want one that has all the features you well us as in a decent EQ. many HU's can be had for around 200$ online if you shop it well.

then upgradeing front speakers a good set of components well really liven up the whole thing and bring you alot of sound quality(SQ) we usualy suggest CDT-CL61a components from www.thezeb.com theyy are on sale for 150$ this is a great price they normaly retail for almost 300$ and are wonderfull speakers. MA audio, MB quartz, focal, diamond, and many others also make great component speakers but the CDT's are the best value for quality.

now if your just listening to jazz and i'm assuming not insnaly loud a small sub say 10" sub in a sealed box well more then work here. alpine type R or S, Infinity kapa, adire shiva, elemental designs K series, and many more all make good SQ 10" drivers. most for under 200$...

that leaves 400$ for amps from your budget i rarely do but for this application a 5 channel amp would be suitable. since you dont need a ton of power for the sub. phoenix gold, ma audio, and i beleiev JL along with many other make 5 channel amps you well want one with 60-100watts rms for 4 channels and with 200-400watts rms for the sub.

you could also go with a 2 channel amp for the fronts 60-100watts rms for the front 2 channels run the rear speakers off the HU then find a 1 channel amp for the sub that is 300watts rms.

Phoenix gold, JL audio, ma audio, alpine, rockford fosgate, hi fonix and many others all make good amps. if you go with a 5 channel amp or 2 amps either way can easily find for under 400$ keeping you withen budget.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE

I ALSO HAVE A SIRIUS SATILITE SYSTEM AND WOULD LIKE TO GET A HEAD UNIT WITH THIS CAPIBILITY DUE THE LIMITED SPACE IN THE CORVETTE
A 5 CHANNEL AMP SOUNDS REAL GOOD DUE THE LIMITED SPACE
I DONT THINK I HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO HAVE THE 6X9 ENCLOSURES AND A SUBWOOFER IN THE BACK UNLESS I MOUNT THE 6X9 ENCLOURSES OVER THE FENDER WELLS FACEING EACH OTHER DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THIS

i have never done a install on an older corvette and its been years since i haev even been in one... not sure how much room you have,. cant be put in the trunk? a 10" alpine type r for instance takes a one cubic foot box thats 12x12x12 inches just so you can get an idea of where it could fit. also a sub is not mandatory... however if you choose not to go with a sub then i would suggest going to a set of 6.5" mid range/mid bass drivers in the rear instead of the 6x9's.

or you could go with a set of 8" subs in the rear instead of the 6x9's . its a small car so you really dont need any real high frequencies from the back.

i run just front speakers in my truck right noe and sounds wonderfull not high tweeter frequencies from back.

alot of options here really.

again i cant remember what the inside of this car looks like so you well haev to do a little bit of looking for space to fit stuff hehe..

Good luck

PS
no need to yell turn caps off hehe... get a head ache real fast reading all caps..

First of all, what is currently in there? Tell the size and location, if you have stock fronts and or rears? In the trunk is there a solid wall between it and the cabin? Etc....

In my opinion your budget is more than enough if wisely spent, so that shouldn't be a problem.
