97 Chevy Blazer

Whats up fellas. Im about to put a system in my newly acquire 97 Chevy Blazer. Im taking my system out of my old Sunbird. I have a pioneer 50x4 head unit and a cheap 840 watt Farenheit amp. Its running to a 15 inch Kicker Comp VR. The Speaker is in a box with 1.5 cubic feet of airspace. Im wondering if the increased airspace from the Sunbird to the Blazer will make my system much louder or much softer. Also, now that i have the extra space of an SUV, should i get a bigger box for my Sub, and if so, should it be closed or vented, and how many cubic feet.

i have 2 compvr15s. i love them, i definitly try to get a bigger box. just make sure its ok with the specs of the subs. check kicker.com for specs. i havent heard the vrs in a ported box but when i have my 2 solo L7s i had one in a ported box just to see how it sounded, and in the ported box it was pretty close to being as loud as the 2 L7s in the sealed box. if you only have one sub id recommend a ported box. if you go that way make sure to fill the box with polyfil or you will get some noise from the sub. help me out here guys im not sure what the noise is called. good luck B_R

Since you have more space for a larger enclosure, a port tuned enclosure will definitely kick up your bass output with the same amp wattage. Look here for boc specs:

The specs noted in this link say 3.0-5.0 cf (internal) for a ported box will do the trick. Getting the port tuning right is key to prevent "port whistle" noise.

If you click on the .pdf owners manual for this sub, should be some details on box and port designs that are useful for this sub.

FYI: Kicker subs like larger enclosure designs. They are pretty good SPL subs, but just OK SQ subs. Depending on the type of music you like, smaller boxes produce a more punchy bass for Rock and Techno/dance. But if you like Rap & R&B etc., the larger box would be better.

A good blend would be a 4.0 cf box, port tuned to ~35 Hz.
