Altenator Replies (10) 2fastxd on 10/24/2004 23:29:13 The JBL BP 600.1 AMp uochronos on 10/25/2004 02:09:44 No clue what the dodge neons alternator is. assuming it is a 90 amp alt though and this amp can pull upwards of 50amps at high volumes that means if your driving down the street with AC/Heater lights and other accesories on dont turn it up super loud or you well get dimming. but under normal listening and during the day i would think you well get no noticable affects. if your going to be pushing the system hard get a higher CCA battery and upgrade alternator wires and batery wireyou can also fuse the amp at 40amps so that it wont be able to use mroe then that. Chronos 2fastxd on 10/25/2004 22:00:25 Can I buy a capacitator, 1 farad, rockford alanjlamore on 10/25/2004 22:15:11 i bought a 1 farad cap for my system when the lights were dimming a LOT. I know a lot of people here don't recomend caps, but for me it stopped the dimming completely. That was when I had a 75watt rms X4 channel amp running 4 speakers and a bridged 4 channel class T amp (400X2) running 2 Infinity kappa perfect subs that are rated at 350w rms each. So the total rms wattage was around 1000 (at full volume, assuming that the gain was adjusted right...) The bottom line is that the cap worked for me. I don't know what my alternator is rated at, but it's in a Dodge Dakota and when I asked a dodge dealership if Dodge makes a bigger one they said it's the same size as the largest Dodge Ram. 2fastxd on 10/25/2004 22:44:52 So basically buy a 1 farad cap for it wont put a strain on my system? Munchiesyumm on 10/25/2004 22:57:05 If you really want to do the right thing.. Listen to what we have to say when we say get a higher CCA rated battery. Let me explain why.. Think of it this way the higher CCA battery the better the battery can charge and output power. The best way to go is 750+CCA battery. This will stop any dimming and put less stress on you're electricals. Now if you keep you're exsisting battery and go out and spend 100-150 bucks on a CAP you just bought a mini battery that puts out bursts of power for 3-4 seconds than relies on you're battery and alt to recharge it. So do you understand what I'm getting at? You're just adding more pressure on the electricals because not only are you charging the battery, cap, and the power that suppies the car, and amplifier. So if you get a larger CCA battery you eliminate the need for the cap because the battery is larger and can supply much more power to the amplifier. This topic has been beaten down many times so I'll just save the golds from having to anwser this. Im not sure the actual ratings of you're current ALT however if you upgrade you're battery and play the music at a reasonable volume you're electrical system will last. If you abuse the volume bad things will happen. You shouldn't have too many problems. I'll be around to anwser any other questions 2fastxd on 10/25/2004 23:01:11 Is it cheaper than an cap, and if so, where do I get this battery, thx Munchiesyumm on 10/25/2004 23:09:16 Yes a new battery are usually a little bit less exspensive and more useful than a cap anyday! It really depends on what route you want to go. Top Line battery is the Yellow Top - Optima you can order these online or pick them up at most automotive stores. Pep boys carries optimas as well as many of the others. These are more exspensive I've seen them as much as $149.99 but you can definatly find them cheaper online. A standard 750 or 800 CCA battery is fine. Just go for the major brands and you can exspect quality. These higher rated CCA batteries run about $80 - 100 bucks if yu can find a deal. Auto Zone Napa Auto Parts 2fastxd on 10/25/2004 23:11:16 OK, Thank You for Help, I will look around for Those If i come across one that im not sure of, Ill let you knoe, lol uochronos on 10/26/2004 02:41:08 i never suggest caps here for one reason they are expensive and are not what you want for a first upgrade to eleectricals. caps have there place but i would suggest in 90% of cases that a cap is the last power upgrade you get. from autozone, napa, and pep boys you can get a 800+cca battery for right arounf 100$.
