Wiring trouble

Alright, I have a question for whoever can help me. I have a the Coustic 401DB model, class D subwoofer mono amp, this amp puts out 200W x 1 @ 4 ohms, and 400W x 1 @ 2 ohms. I also have one Audiobahn 12" subwoofer, this is a dual 4 ohm subwoofer that has an RMS of 400W and peak power @ 800W. I need to know how you would wire this up to get as much power as i could out of it w/o blowing it?? I just recently figured it out after blowing my 3rd sub MAD (of a crappy brand) that there are many different ways to wire a sub and if you dont do it right, bad things happen. I dont really under stand the whole 200W x 1 @ 4 ohms, and 400W x 1 @ 2 ohms thing?? I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how i should wire this up so i dont blow this sub too. Thanks in advance GRIN

ok..

the first thing you do is recognise the speaker terminals on the woofer.. there has to be two sets of terminals as it is a dual 4ohms VC woofer..

connect the two positive terminals with one wire and the negative with another.. now your woofer becomes a 2ohms load.. (at which your amp is at its best output) .. connect the positive and the negative of you woofer to the amp..

i think you may find it confusing.. ok here;s a simpler way..take the positive of the amp and wire it to both the positive terminals on the woofer.. and the negative from the amp to both the negative terminals on the woofer.. this will give you a 2ohms load to a 2ohms stable amplifier.. you will get around 400wrms power..

if you still did not understand .. ask more questions to solve your confusion before wiring the woofer..

Thanks alot Victor,

I think i understand what your saying, but to make sure, what your sayin is that i should connect the two positive terminals on the woofer with one wire, and also connect the negative terminals on the woofer with one wire, then take a wire and connect that from one of the positive terminals on the woofer, to the positive terminal on the amp, and then do the same for the negative??

Just let me know if what im sayin is correct, thanks again

If you are blowing subs... there's a reason behind it. Most likely, the amp is putting out a lot of "dirty power". (high distortion values, can kill a very strong sub in time)

The wiring info you got from Victor is correct and you seem to have that part down... good nuff. However, tuning the sub amp to match the sub and low distortion values makes a big difference. Also, having the proper enclosure spes and design are a big factor too. (especially when using bandpass enclosures) In the wrong enclosure, we can easily blow a good sub with moderate power or very high distortion values.

Can you explain in detail, what you have now and more about the sub enclosure and subs that were blown?

needless to say the old adage "you get what you pay for" does hold water, in most cases. I think in time, after hearing other systems you will want to upgrade your subs. maybe not, just my opinion, but I owned two of the same 12 inch audiobahns, and was rather dissapointed with them, more or less. I recently upgraded from them to two kappa perfect 12's and i have to say there was a VERY noticable difference in both SQ (sound quality) and SPL(loudness basically). Even now with these better subs im wanting to upgrade yet again, so i have to say you never stop wanting more, or at least not me, im never completely satisfied.
