I have Rockford Fosgates in the front (3") and back (6x9") and I want to give them some more power. I don't want any subs at this time, but would rather just power up my speakers first. My problem is whether or not I want to power up the 3"s in the front. They are small and they do rattle the plastic lining in the door a little. But then again I'm not sure I want to power the back speakers and make the fronts obsolete. I was suggested to get a 600w rockford amp 2-channel, and run that to all the speakers. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Intrigue on 10/18/2004 14:01:28 Fronts are RF power series 60w rms 120w max. Backs are RF punch series 75w rms 150 max. Intrigue on 10/18/2004 14:06:30 Also the current stereo I have outputs 22w rms at 50w max. That would be per speaker of course. asplundher on 10/18/2004 18:54:21 Theres two things you could do here: 1. A two channel amp to run your fronts if you plan on adding a sub later. The rears could run off the deck for rear fill. 2. A four channel will suffice if your not going to add subs for a while. The 6x9's should provide enough bass for to sound good. Later on if you add a sub or subs the rear of the amp (bridged) could power the sub unless you want a more powerful setup. As for the fronts; that will be your main soundstage, so you will definitely want cleaner power than the deck. Crossing them up around 200 and adding some dampening material should stop the rattle unless there is some type of mechanical failure. From those options start with your allowable budget and look at amps within your range with the power you need (around 50-75 rms). Then let us know your picks and we'll help you decide. Intrigue on 10/18/2004 20:54:22 Thank you for your input. I'm going to my local installer tomorrow so I'll find out what my options are, that will fit my budget (which is my main concern). Also what's your thought on using the two-channel amp to power all the speakers? I was suggested that but was a little iffy on whether or not that would be a wise decision. What are the consequences of using a two-channel amp that way? Intrigue on 10/18/2004 21:39:26 What about using this amp... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1067391222327&skuId=6195887&productCategoryId=cat03086&type=product asplundher on 10/19/2004 09:13:31 I wouldn't recommend a one for all amp. It will get louder, but you won't be able to fade from front to back. Even without subs you still would want some good imaging from your fronts. Also since you have two different size speakers; one pair would suffer since they need to be x-overed at different frequencies. As for that amp; for that price? Don't Do It! For that kind of money, you can get a potent 4 channel and be on your way towards building a really nice setup. Heres one for example: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-tKrqgBOJ6up/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=489AP740 For $20 bucks more you can even get 80 rms per channel. Look around before you spend that kind of money, you will have a lot of choices for that price. If you need more help just let us know. uochronos on 10/19/2004 12:09:22 thezeb.com has the profile amps i have been suggesting as well 90$ on sale for a 4 channel 75watt per channel amp or 99$ for a 4 channel amp thats 80watts per channel thats rms of course. best buy and ciruit city are very expensive if you chooce to buy from a store and not online smaller shops and actualy just car audio dealers well have better deals usualy. you well want to have a fade control on these as was already mentioned if one set of speakers if more effiecient in this case liklythe rears they well be way louder. and normaly you want to front louder. Chronos Intrigue on 10/19/2004 16:48:05 Thank you for the suggestions guys. I actually just went out and got an amp, but I'm regreting it now... I'll take it back and look into that profile amp. Looks like a good deal. Intrigue on 10/26/2004 22:14:51 Well, I finally got the amp in my car and it sounds great. I actually did get the Profile amp, and it supplies more than enough power to get my speakers going. There's absolutely no distortion, and I was very happy with the results of my local installer. I'd like to thank everyone that helped me out, otherwise I would have spent a lot more on a much weaker amp. Next step is to upgrade my stereo. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
