i have been looking around for a system that'll really pound and i think i found what i want but i'm not sure if it'll work with my jeep or if there will be cancellation problems. originally i was thinking about a pair of 12s probably alpine type r or s. then along comes a sub that looks just so ridiculous i have to consider it the type x. its a little more pricy and hard to get around here, the shop only has one. i was thinking about having that along with a pair of type s or r 10s in my jeep with an enclosure that would have the 10s angled in a little bit toward the 12 in the center all of the facing toward the back door of the jeep. i don't have a particular amp in mind and was thinking about a huge mono class d amp for the 12 and a single amp to power the 10s. i have already considered electrical upgrades and will likely have a 247 amp alt to replace my 95 amp within a month. what i really need to know is if there would be any cancellation issues and if it would sound any good. Replies (9) uochronos on 10/15/2004 20:50:03 no cancelation... but honestly with a single Type X the other subs are not going to add much volume at all... reall if you go with a sub such as type X, brahma, W7, XXX. they are so power full 1 sub is going to hit harder then just about antyhing other people are running on the street in your town likly. the other subs wont hurt infact running a type X 12" and a type r 10" well give deep boomy bass and tight punchy bass both so it would sound good. some cancelation could be caused but i'm unsure myself how much. if you like the sound of 12" subs then a single type X, brahma, XXX, or W7 would probaly please you and be alot chaper. Chronos P0werLifter on 10/16/2004 02:32:53 I agree with chronos here, going with a single type X and running it to its max wattage with a correct enclosure will sound just as good as spending the money on 3 subs. A single type X will haev the "awe" factor measured in just because of the superior quality, and the fact that not many people out there have them at this moment. Same with the brahmas, XXX, and the W7s GRIN The thing you might notice with running more than 1 driver is the cone area available to move air, but the fact of the matter is that the type X has high linear excursion and will pump out loads of bass for your ears to enjoy while keeping the sound crisp and clear. If your going for the BOOMY loud bass...go with a large ported enclosure with a massive port,,,,believe me....it will get loud -Jason jeepwagonneedsbangin on 10/16/2004 03:37:56 but i'm not just going for loudness, i mean i want it to pound but i want it to look mean at the same time. and to the naive more subs look like a better system, though i like to think that i am not a naive person i know that most of the people (mostly women) that i would show my stereo to would be most impressed with cosmetics as well as the incredible bass. i have a freind with 4 rockford stage 1s in an alrite fiberglass enclosure that everyone thinks is so great even though its not putting out nearly what my other freinds crankensien is. but lets face is a single crankenstien 12" sub doesn't look like much even though its got enough spl to knock your socks off. i want the best of both worlds for it to look big'n bad and do really pound. i thought for the type X i would power it with a jbl 1200.1 and the type Ss would just go off a jbl 600.1 or simlar. i want the deep lows from the 12 and the punchier bass from the 10s. i would go with just a single 10 if i could find a way to somhow have it so that it wouldn't look so dispropotional. also even with electical upgrade i wouldn't be able to power a pair of type xs i don't think..... but this is just what i was thinking so if you have some ideas don't be afraid to tell em to me uochronos on 10/16/2004 12:05:31 well if your going for cosmetics and want to spend the money the set up you laid out well work good... however remember at high volume the 1200watt amp well pull over 100amps of current and the 600watt amp well pull over 50amps... if you are able to find a 250amp alternator you should be fairly safe however that al is only putting out around 100amps at idle so at stop lights, parked, etc if your system is drawing well over that you could easily drain the battery. i have a similar system 1200watt amp and 500watt amp running off a 200amp alternator but i'm an SQ guy my system only gets turned up loud once in a great while. not trying to get you to do differnt just leting you know to be carefull. in my last car i had to push it out of an intersection twice because the stereo killed it and trust me no girl is impressed by having to help push your car lol. good luck Chronos uochronos on 10/16/2004 12:06:55 btw where did you find a 250amp alt for that car? my buddy was looking for a 200amp alt for his jeep cheerokee and the biggest he could find was a 150amp.... they tried to sell him like a 220amp but it didnt mount or fit hehe. anyway it would be greatly apreciated if you could pass on your source. Chronos jeepwagonneedsbangin on 10/17/2004 16:39:15 i picked it up off of ebay a while back and just haven't had time to install it yet. i looked and they have 200 amp alts on there now though no 250s so if he wanted to he could just check that out. well all my system is still under consideration but right now i think i like the looks of my idea i just didn't know if there would be any cancellation problems or anything like that. also i'm not sure about the amps that i picked out, will they work for the applications i need them for? uochronos on 10/17/2004 16:48:54 if i where you i would get the alternated tested to make sure it puts out that much power. just to be on the safe side so you dont get stranded.... as for the amps they are excelent choices. both class D so very efficient not wasting alot of power here at all.... on thing to consider is amping your mids and tweets because you wont hear much over the bass without that. usualy a 1/7 ratio is good something like 75watts to the mids tweeets per channel and 600watts to bass. now in your case cant get that ratio hehe. but i would suggest at least a 50-75watt amping of your mids and highs. or this system may be very one sided. i went from 20watts rms off HU to 125watts rms from a nice amp per channel and it was like night and day it sounded amzingly better. well good luck this should be a fun system to build. anymore questions? Chronos jeepwagonneedsbangin on 10/17/2004 19:01:58 just one.... what is a good amp to use for the mids? i've got aftermarket alpines already installed 2 in the front doors and 2 in the hatch. uochronos on 10/17/2004 21:32:33 at www.thezeb.com they have profile amps on sale. they are not high end but they are not bargin basement crap either, they put out good power and are all around half off. they have several 2 and 4 channel amps for 80-150$ great deal to get better sound from the mids and highs. also a few other good brands for good prices at the same site. if you find a couple you like thefre list them here i well let you know what the major differnces at what not are. good luck Chronos Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
