Amp wiring kit & sub enclosure questions

Hey guys, I have quite a few questions about a current car audio system upgrade that I will be starting soon, however I will start off with just a couple.
First off, the vehicle being upgraded is a 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale with a 105a alt. and a Die-Hard 795cca bat.
Music mostly listened to is Rock,Jazz,Dave Matthews Band type music and some Rap/Hip-Hop
Currently installed stereo equipment:
Alpine CDA-9815 HU (27wRMS x 4. with 3 front/rear/sub rca preamp out @ 4 Volt )
Alpine SPR-136A 5-1/4 component speakers mounted in front doors. (40wRMS power handling).
Alpine SPR-694A 6x9 speakers mounted in rear deck.(50wRMS power handling).
Currently have but not yet installed stereo equipment:
Alpine MRV-F540 4/3/2 Channel Power Amplifier. (80w X4 RMS@ 4 OHM 14.4 Volt). For above mentioned interior speakers.
Alpine MRD-M301 Mono Power Amplifier. 350w X1 RMS@ 2 OHM 14.4 Volt). For trunk mounted Sub.
I will probably be getting Alpine 1241D (dvc) 4x4 OHM Sub, however I am open to suggestions on this.
Anyway my questions for now are as follows:
for an amp wiring kit, I have been I have been looking around for sometime now and decided to go with the MK Audio 3500W Multi-Amp 4 Gauge Amplifier kit.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2271.html
Would this amp kit be compatible with the amps I am installing? I like the Phoenix Gold TSX4404 4 Gauge Kit, but it does not have a ground dist. block and I'm not too sure about the 100amp agu type fuse, would rather have an ANL type, I would have to purchase a 100amp ANL fuse with the MK kit because it comes with an 80 amp fuse. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Also as far as enclosures, Alpine recommends a .7 to 1 cu. ft sealed enclosure. An installer @ circuit city said if I listen to any Rap-Hip/hop to get a Q-Logic Single Subwoofer Enclosure (QLH-1.2512SE) 1.25cu.ft. which is a type-2 box, he said it would give a better bass response when listening to Rap. From what I understand this would be too large of an enclosure, altough Alpine tech support said it would be OK.
I would really like to hear your opinions on this subject, as I have gotten conflicting opinions from Alpine Tech support in the past. In any case should polyfill be used?
Am planning to mount the amps in the trunk on plywood, would it be OK to carpet the plywood? also how about using spacers under the amps for extra cooling?
Any advice, replies or responses would be extremely valuable and helpful as I respect your opinions.
Thanks,
Bob

You're on the right track with all speakers, amps and sub mentioned.

The Alpine SWR-1241d recommends 0.7-1.0 cf Sealed. If you go ported, then .75-1.75 cf is specified by Alpine for this sub. If using a slightly larger enclosure, the low bass will be more pronounced, but power handling will drop as excursion limits are reached before full power is met.

Here, a #4 gage wiring kit is needed. A fuse between 80-100A is sufficient as well. As for RCA wiring, the F540 has RCA outs that can be used to piggy back your sub amp. So really, only 4 RCA's are needed unless you want Bass Engine features from the HU to control the sub amp. In that case, an extra pair of RCA's are needed.
That kit you showed is not bad... but you will need 1-2 more sets of RCA's, depending on how you wire in yopur sub amp.

Here's a nice kit for less:

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOLAK44

Has the same items like fuse holder, 1 pair of RCA's, termination hardware and #12 gage speaker line.

All you need add is 1-2 more RCA pairs:

If you want to piggy back 4 channel to sub amp, just add 1 long RCA cable to the 4 channel and a short patch cable from 4 ch. to sub amp.

PS Knukonceptz is an excellent product. Yes, the price is much lower than Stinger, RF and PG products, but very well designed and very robust jackets on all wires.

Yo Swez, Can I piggy back my setup of amps? I got a PPI PC2300 and a Hifonics BX1000D. So, saying that if you piggy back these amps then you wont have to use the subwoofer control on the HU?..

Hey swez, thanks alot for the reply, I like the kit you suggested, however I have a few questions about it.
First, I noticed the amp kit has an 80 amp fuse, the Alpine MRV- F540 amp has two 30 amp fuses in it and the Alpine MRD-M301 has two 20 amp fuses (100 amp total). Would the 80 amp fuse be enough?
Also I would be ordering a power and ground dist. block. On the power dist. block can I use the unfused type http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=BC-1448
Due to already having a fuse at the battery and amps being fused, it seems like having a fused dist. block would be unnecessary, am I correct on this? Sorry if this seems obvious but I have never tried an install of this nature, also I plan on ordering 8awg power and ground wire for the dist. blocks.
Thanks again for your help.

SeJae,

If the PPI has preamp outputs, yes... you can piggy back them to the Hifonics Brutus amp too. If no preamp outs are available, can either use "Y" patch cables off HU to feed both amps or use a line driver with 2 inputs and 4 outputs. The nice thing about a line driver, it can boost low RCA voltage signals (2 volts or less) from the HU to all amps (4-8 volts) connected to the line driver.

Swez

PS The PC-2300 is an older 2 channel amp. One of the last great series made by PPI before they were bought out by Directed Audio. I could not find any helpful details on this amp.

So, when you say piggy back you mean that if I only had one preamp output then this method would allow me to hook up both amps, right?. I have three preamp outputs on my HU, so I wont need the piggy back method. But I can use the piggy back method to bypass my subwoofer preamp on my HU, so I dont put more strain on the HU, correct?..

Can someone answer the above question, please?

I would use all the pre amps on the HU instead of splitting up the power of one preamp output.

If you dont use the subwoofer output you will lose all your sub controls. Which in deed helps a whole lot. You will be able to control the bass dynamics from the HU instead of running to the amps all the time.

So no piggy backing necessary. Just use all the outputs of the HU and you should be fine.

nice setup by the way. love it when people go all one brand....shows dedication.
