You can do as stated with a free air sub. It does not require a separate enclosure as the trunk airspace, is the enclosure.
It may not sound as good as a sealed sub. But yes, this is what free air subs are designed for... no real enclosure.

i had a buddy that did that with his rear deck, he put his 12 inch eclipse sub between his 6x9s but he built a box to go under the sub, one of the cleanest subs i have heard, have ya thought about tryin to build a box under there? wont take up much trunk space and with give better sound as well.

to do it that way would i just be able to use a normal sub? even tho theres not much in the price of them. Are the kenwood subs any good cos i was going to go with 1 of them cos the rest of my ice is kenwood

thanks

Yes and it will sound a good amount better as well. Free air subs are not the greatest sound quality. The right enclosuire can make any decent sub sound very good.

The Kenwood Tornado is so-so, the dB series is a bit better and if you have a budget number in mind, can show you some very good subs for cheap.

Do you plan to add a sub amp to power this sub too?

i was looking at the KEN-KFCWF255
250mm Free-air Subwoofer, 600W peak power
4 Ohms, Silver Pearl Mica Tornado shape woofer cone for £45.19 or the
KEN-KFCW2505
250mm Enclosure type Subwoofer, 600W peak power
4 Ohms, Silver Pearl Mica Tornado shape woofer cone
for £43

if u know any other subs that are better in the same price range (max £60)? and any good cheap amps as well plz

thanks

seems like your on a tight budget. considering you dont have an amp yet, it may be easier to find a good amp/sub combo if we knew how much $ you had to work with.

ebay is a good place to look for subs and amps, especially if you are on a budget.

as far as amps go, JBL and US acoustics make good solid products are a fair price.

Buick: He's in the UK and they do not carry many of the same brands there as here and the cost of goods are much higher there, then in the USA. (Conversion: $100.00 UDS = ~160 British pound)

Curryboy: That's not a bad setup for moderate powered sub. We have the same subs here in US.

Here's the sub I found that matches your info: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-UPQ5knMkA17/ProdView.asp?s=0&cc=01&c=10&g=67600&I=113W2505++

As for amps, Kenwood makes a few decent amps as does JBL and many others. You may have a limited selection in your location as I did help a guy out a few weeks back. Let me see if I can find that thread.

Oh man, you said it... as I have been looking for a post to a guy in the UK from a few weeks back. I think Dan... was oned of them and the other guy was md....

Curry: What web site links are you looking at for products? Pass on a few links you have found and I'll have a look and make some suggestions.

Swez

PS There are a few sites I recall looking at for md.xxxx and he found a Cadence Momentum series sub... 250 watts RMS (500 peak) for L59.

He also was planning to get a JBL GTO series amp. If you would like to get in touch with him about what he found and where, send me your private email address, and I'll pass it on to him as he will contact you. He's not too far from London.

hi

the site im looking at for my subs is
http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/index.html
in the kenwood section
i was looking at spending about £150 in total on my sub and amp because i dont really want anything to powerfully cos it will shake my car to bits lol
or i was looking at a JBL amp/sub combo for a £120 in the back of max power (JBL BTX-250) it has a built in 250 watts rms amp with 2 10 inch subs in, it looks a beast GRIN thats it there http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/focus.php3?partno=BTX250

my e-mail address is: curry_power@hotmail.com

thanks for the help

ps is pyramid a good make cos my mate has a list of thier amps off this company that imports them from the us

Swez on 06/24/2003 17:28:29
OK, will have a look at the sites mentioned and see what we can come up with in your budget plan for both quality sound and reasonable SPL... Don't want to have you shake your little car to bits eh?

AMP: http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/focus.php3?partno=GTO2000

Not a bad little amp here. Is a 2 channel, bridged to a mono channel amp and sing 4 ohm sub (250 mm), good bump for a modest powered system.

FYI: I have an older JBL 2 channel now, 300 watts RMS bridged to a pair of 10" (250 mm) subs now. Plenty of bass power for my taste and don't care to impress anyone else but for my enjoyment... just like "Baby Bear" said... "is just right for me". SMILE

That JBL BTX 250 is interesting. Never saw one of these in the States and the price is good for both sub and amp.. L139.99 for sub, amp and enclosure is not a bad deal at all. This system also uses a 10" (250 mm) passive radiator to add more deep bass and a bit more "bump" that a common sealed woofer.

The amp is 100 RMS which is plenty enough power for a smaller car. The trick here, can it be mounted the way you like? One good thing about this package, is all in one and will not rob lots of power from your electrical system... (maybe 15-20 amperes of current I would guess) In all, not bad!

About Pyrimid amps... cheap yes, quality.. NOT !!!

Thanks for the help mate

i am going to go for the JBL BTX-250 and just fasten it down in my boot with some bracks

thanks again

Swez on 06/25/2003 16:11:40
Sounds like a plan... nice concept that JBL BTX-250 package and let us know what you think of it when installed.

Seems like a very good bargain and no enclosure costs to add even more to the price.

Cheers,

Swez

Curryboy on 06/26/2003 13:19:53

Swez on 06/27/2003 07:31:17
You bet!

Keep in touch as you get your gear together... am very curious how this product will work out for your application. I like the concept for small and compact bass installs.

I trust JBL engineering to give good results, reliable performance at a fair price. Hope this one meets that criteria as well.

Cheers mate,
Swez
