I'm looking for a new HU for my wife ('98 Volkswagon Jetta TDI). She has a factory system and bought a CD-changer from the dealer when she bought the car. Because the car is diesel and gets great highway milage, we wind up using it on our road trips. One option we're considering is satelite radio (hate fading in and out of stations on trips and neither of us is big on Top 40 radio). Does anyone have a feel for whether satelite radio is here to stay or will go; anyone have any experiences with satelite radio; any preferences - Sirius vs XM? I look at all the marketing, and think, "what a great idea." But I don't know anyone using either system. Currently, I'm leaning towards a Clarion unit b/c the Volkswagon CD-changer talks with Clarion. The satelite option for Clarion HUs is Sirius. I have found the Clarion DXZ545MP on eBay for ~$120 - which is cheap and probably gives here all that she wants. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks y'all. He just put the terk antenna on his car since he was goin on a trip from WI to Alabama to check out hunting land and I havent heard him complain about his XM since hes been back. I also see him use it all the time when he's working outside on stuff and it comes in clear. Crum on 10/6/2004 13:36:22 Thanks for the info UK and Ryan. So many choices It looks like XM may have better radio. . . of course I see more eye to eye with the Sirius sports package - serious SEC sports freak here. I'm really getting into homebrewing - maybe if one of them offered a beer channel . . . But you guys are both pretty happy with the service? It's worth the additional $? uochronos on 10/6/2004 17:51:19 satalite radio i would say is here to stay... people well pay 50$ a month for cable tv they well definatly pay 10-20$ a month to get non fading good quality music with no comercials. many big time radio people are into making Satalite radio big... howard stern for one. i personaly dont care for him but he defiantly is big in radio. and he is big into Satalite radio too. i personaly like it but dont listen to radio in the first place so i wouldnt buy it now. Chronos UKinstaller on 10/6/2004 19:05:12 whether you get XM or sirius, it is definitely worth the monthly payment. i think xm is like 10 bucks a month. even if you only use it a few times a week, you are getting your money worth. -UK ttocs on 10/6/2004 20:05:28 I agree, it will be around to take over... At the shop I sideline at we can't get them in fast enough. I/we work with sirious and that would be what i would go with. alanjlamore on 10/6/2004 21:30:19 Personaly I can't wait to get XM radio. I never listen to talk radio and don't keep up with sports so much so I think XM would be better for me. I think it'd be a lot better than CD's as well. My HU skips once in a while, and I with a cd I would have to find the music online, burn it, then keep listening to the same songs untill I find more that I like... With the radio I end up finding songs that I love and forgot about. Oh, and the biggest reason..............I HATE COMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!! Whew, glad I got that off my chest. Sorry for the yelling ;) HAPPY ;) Now I just have to wait and see if the boss will "let" me spend the money on the equip. (I like to humor her.........ut oh her she comes gotta go). HAPPY truckergeorge on 10/6/2004 21:50:56 I have XM. Satelite radio is the best thing for music period. George Crum on 10/7/2004 08:33:04 I hear you, alan. . . I'm trying to get the satelite radio into my wife's car before I try putting it in my truck for a reason! Thanks for all the positive comments. . . Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
