Are there any places to legally download music that's actually worth it? Kazaa is good if you know what you're looking for, but you never know if the file is good 'till you download it and listen to it. I'm looking for something that you can brouse through. Even if I have to pay, if it's not too much (and I think $1 per song is too much). Any online clubs that give you X amt of songs for a low monthly price? Thanks, Alan Replies (9) UKinstaller on 10/5/2004 16:19:55 Alan, if you have it on there already, take kazaa off of your computer immediately. kazaa is the reason that so many computers today are nagged by spyware, adware, and trojan viruses. it is a HORRIBLE program that does nothing but slow your computer down and fill it with pop-ups. after you remove it, go to www.lavasoftusa.com and download Ad-Aware to get rid of any remnants of the program, and finally, you will need to get a utility to clean your windows registry, such as RegCleaner. if you want to download songs, go to www.limewire.com and download that. it is a very fast, reliable program, and every song i've downloaded from it has worked just fine. you can also download videos and software and stuff from it. there is a free version and a pro version, but the free is perfectly fine. finally, the only people that are getting in trouble by the recording industry are those who share files on any P2P program. you can download all the files you want without any fear of being busted, so long as you turn off file sharing, because the only people being prosecuted are file sharers. holler if you need any help w/ setup. -UK p.s. i am an absolute computer nerd. if you guys need help with anything just holler, i can fix anything that can be fixed, e.g. anything except for problems caused by hardware issues. sorry i babbled so much alanjlamore on 10/5/2004 16:29:55 Already got rid of kazaa about a month ago. I haven't tried ad aware yet but I do have spybot search and destroy, and spysweeper. So far spysweeper has gotten rid of a lot more than spybot, and many claim it's the best (just like any other)... I even had some leftover files from morpheus that I couldn't delete and finaly the spysweeper got rid of them. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll definitely check out limewire.com, but I'm at work now so I don't think I should download it here (just incase). Any others?? Thanks again, Al UKinstaller on 10/5/2004 18:50:53 ad-aware cleans the windows registry, sort of. i like it a lot more than spybot. try running it, see what happens. also, install the google toolbar for added pop-up protection. but definitely check out limewire, i have probably used 10 - 15 different programs, and with the exception of the original Napster, Limewire is the best file sharing program on the web. -UK alanjlamore on 10/5/2004 19:48:12 Hey, just curious, did you buy the $18 "lime wire pro" or just get the basic free one? UKinstaller on 10/5/2004 20:29:17 free, don't bother with the pro. just click no or cancel every time you load it up. -UK Munchiesyumm on 10/6/2004 00:00:45 limewire basic is bueno.. I've never seen the pro version but im sure you could get some type of crack or hack to get the proversion for free. Just try out the basic one first thats what I use. you can find older versions of it off of www.oldversion.com I generally don't get the newest version because it has more adsupport. uochronos on 10/6/2004 02:17:41 i agree with UK get kazaa off your comp if you dont want spy ware... downloading Diet kazaa helps get rid of the spy ware. but unless you have an agresive spyware program kazaa just infests your computer with it. Lime wire is the best one i can think of. audionewb on 10/6/2004 07:52:13 Take it from a computer guy, go to shareaza.com. It connects to gnutella1, gnutella2, and eDonkey Servers all through one program. It's like having 3 programs in 1. Pretty sweet huh? Edit: Forgot to mention no spy ware in that program either. I think Limewire has some though, unless they finally went clean. UKinstaller on 10/6/2004 09:24:15 limewire is clean. no popups for the most part. shareaza, though, is open source. it won't have nearly as good virus filtration, DL speeds, or support. also, their website is down a lot. it's down right now. i've used it before and i don't like it, but hey, like i said, it's open source so it will constantly be changing. the choice is yours, try out both, see what you like. WinMX is another good program, but it's not very user friendly. -UK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
