OK, I'm the guy with the avionixx 800.4 that was bridged to a sub, and idealy would be running my CDT 6.5s, but one of the 4 channels went bad. So I can only either use 2 channels for the CDTs and one channel running the sub (greatly underpowered); or I could bridge 2 channels to run the sub perfectly and have only one channel left to run both CDT speakers but I won't have the sterio effect since they'd both be playing only what the left speaker would be playing. I would get the amp fixed, but I would need a recipt to send it to avionixx and I can't find anyone here who knows about class T amps. The sub sounds sooooooo much better when powered with 400Wrms as opposed to 125, and if I wire the CDTs in parallel, they'd be getting about 200Wrms, so I could just lower the gain. Doesn't each speaker (left and right) pretty much play the same thing except for the few songs that you hear the music go from one side to the other? Or, is most music played with certain things going on differently in the right or left side? Replies (9) ttocs on 10/3/2004 13:55:48 I (or rather my now ex) blew a speaker in a home audio seperate system. I have been amazed since how much I miss with only one side playing. You would be suprised how many songs sound different with only one side.. I would not recommend it to gain a little bass.... swez on 10/3/2004 14:19:55 If you cannot find the receipt, did you fill out the warranty card and send it in? If you did this, they should have a record of it. If not, best option would be to find a good audio repair tech that knows car amps well. My guess, you'll be looking at ~$65.00 labor. Parts are extra. One thing I have noticed about Avionixx amps, there seem to be a lot of field failures in that brand. If you look at the refurb shop that sells their refurbs... there are a lot of them. Am beginning to question thier design quality and reliablity issues. Also, they only do warrantee on amps sold direct... not off other Internet sites. Used to be marketed by E-Designs. Now, eD has a new line of amps... the NINe.x series. Wonder why the Avionixx web site is down too? Swez alanjlamore on 10/3/2004 14:22:17 well, I think I'll just end up getting the MA Audio HK297 amp to run the CDTs and use 2 of the channels on my avionixx amp to run the sub, since I can't get the amp's other channel fixed. Thezeb sells it for $109.95 and when I just wanted a guy to hook up an amp that I had about a year ago, they charged $75 just to put the amp in. So for about the same price to get the amp fixed (If I could find someone to do it) I could just get this amp instead. Thanks for the info. Any other suggestions for an amp to run the CDT 6.5s (take 90Wrms), would be appreciated as well ;) alanjlamore on 10/3/2004 14:27:49 Thanks Swez, I was still typing my last post when you finished with yours :) I've been having trouble getting through even to eD. I sent a message about my problem stating that the avionixx website is down and when I click on the link that's in my email, to see if there's a response, it doesn't recognise the code they gave me, or my email address. Hopefully these other 2 channels will last me a while and if something happens to them, I'll just try to find another amp. Either class D or T. Maybe the class T amps are still too new??? uochronos on 10/3/2004 16:56:28 cant us a class d to run the cdts.. but if your uninterested in fixing this amp then getting a second amp for the cdt's is a good choice. just remember a A/B amp well pull alot more current then your current class T amp. Chronos PS i have noticed alot of Avionixx amps go down its odd i have had mine for around 6 months now and not a problem in sight. i hope it keeps that way. i'm also very kind to my amps so that could be why. ttocs on 10/3/2004 18:34:27 class d has high efficiency but low SQ, it is great for subs but not recommended for anything else... alanjlamore on 10/3/2004 18:53:37 I meant that if the Avionixx amp's 2 channels, that are going to be bridged, went bad then I'd get a class D or another class T for the sub. I plan on evetually getting the MA Audio HK297 amp for the CDT's and using the avionixx amp, bridged, for the sub (as long as it lasts). Idealy like to get another class T amp for the CDTs instead of the MA audio one, but I haven't seen any others beside the Avionixx brand and I haven't been able to get on their website for about a month now. Any other class T amps that would work good with the CDTs? Thanks, Alan uochronos on 10/4/2004 02:25:35 i cant remember right now but i knoe there are 3 or 4 well known companies using calss T tech now. ttocs, swez, or kittle can problay name them. but they elude my memory at the moment. swez on 10/4/2004 05:34:49 Tough call here... what's the best option? If you get the Avionixx amp repaired, it may be a while before you get it back. However, the low cost of that amp and great efficiency, power etc., it's well worth the repair hassles. Not that many car amps out there to date that use Class T (Tripath) technology and perhaps even fewer techs that know how to troubleshoot and repair them. Depends on what failed. Probably a few output transistors are likely. If it were my situation, I'd call around to a few local repair shops and see if they have any experience with Class T amp repairs. In the meantime, stay on e-Designs/Avionixx and see what they can do for you if still under warrantee. The good news is... Alpine will be rolling out a new line of amps at CES in January 2005. Obviously, they see a good thing coming from Class T amps and other amp makers will follow suit in time. Can you either buy an inexpensive amp while yours is being repaired or borrow some gear from a buddy until your amp comes back? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
