My friend has $1000 CAN saved up for just subs and an amp. He could buy of e-bay, or online. He does not want to get electrical upgrades, but he will if he has to, he has a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. He wants A LOT of bass. What should he run? Thanks for the help. Jake Martens Replies (10) uochronos on 10/3/2004 02:40:26 so many options in that price range that i wouldnt even know where to begin. if he wants pure loud spl. i suggest a single efficient 15inc sub in a ported box or dual 12" subs in a ported box either well work great. adire elemental designs Resonant engineering Audiobahn JL Alpine all make ecceltent products as for an amp that should be chossen after a sub is chossen. more infop on your friends wants and we can really narrow it down Chronos P0werLifter on 10/3/2004 03:52:02 As Chronos has stated above, A single 15 or dual 12" drivers in a ported enclosure will suit his tastes if he's an SPL nut like myself. Not sure what exchange rate with the American Dollar is but im sure we can work with that. A 600watt RMS system should be fine for his needs, He might get buy without having to do any electrical upgrades and even if he had to, they would be Nominal (High CCA battery + Larger Guage wiring). Some of these brands are more expensive than others but depending on what the Can exhange rate is you might still consider them. I would highly reccomend *Adire (www.AdireAudio.com) *Resonant Engineering (REaudio.com) *Elemental Designs (Edesignaudio.com) *JL Audio *Alpine As far as amplifiers, If you can find a JBL BP 600.1 on ebay their pretty cheap and are very sturdy amplifiers. Other amplifiers to consider are Planet Audio Hitronics MA audio and the list goes on and on If hes looking for SPL Loud and Low then he needs to definently go Ported/ Vented on his Enclosure. Doing this will vastly improve the low end bass and will also increase the SPL. I typed an article in the DIY area that might be of some help for him when designing the enclosure if he does decide to go ported. Look for Power Systems/ SPL Basics. Hope this helps -Jason uochronos on 10/3/2004 04:36:51 1000 canadian is about 600-700$ american thats very aproximate hehe. swez on 10/3/2004 06:19:19 $1,000.00 CAD = 796.686 US $0.796686 USD = $1.25520 CAD Per XE.com Swez thunder57 on 10/3/2004 10:51:05 Alright, thanks for all the info. Do you recomend square kickers at all? And all he basicaly wants is loud SPL bass, so everyone can hear him. swez on 10/3/2004 12:30:12 Kicker makes a good SPL sub. To get the most from them, large amp(s) and huge enclosures are the key. The L5 is a good choice as are the venerable L7 series. But both of these subs require large power amps to make them bump... and bump hard they will. (500-750 watts per sub) This Chevy he has, WILL NEED a major electrical upgrade to support the amp(s) Probably talking at least 1000 watts of amping power. That means >85A. of current pull or more. Figure >$400.00 just for that aspect of the install + amp(s), Subs, wiring kit and enclosure. Think it through! Swez thunder57 on 10/3/2004 22:16:01 I see what you mean, thanks for pointing that out for me. So the Adire subs and the ones you have listed will bump realy good too? All the people at my school have all the "Name" brands like Kicker and Kenwood. It would be great to see a name you rarely see smoke them all :)). Where could you buy these subs, I looked at the sites you gave me and which kind(level) are the best? Thanks a lot. P0werLifter on 10/4/2004 00:42:12 Within each of the listed brands have a very good line of subs. Resonant Engineering the XXX is an awesome sub but is pricey, you'd have to call them and see if they will deal with you directly (which they do if you dont have a dealer in your area) Adire- Brahma series is awesome a bit cheaper than the XXX i believe JL audio is very expensive..the W6 and W7 versions are very nice but hav a very BIG price tag Alpine has some awesome subs..the TypeR and the type S are good but from what ive heard their new Type X is awesome..looks pretty sweet too. Chronos has more Experience with Elemental Designs than i do =( All these types of subs we've reccomended are fairly well known in the competition audio "scene" and you will not be dissapointed with their performace granted their in the proper enclosure GRIN -Jason uochronos on 10/4/2004 02:20:53 Elemental designs are great subs but from what i'm looking at probaly not his friends best bet here. ED subs are pretty much SQ/SQL subs... the A series and new Ov2 series bump pretty good but the goal of there subs aside from the A series really isnt high spl... honestly i think Adire Shivas in a ported box or a single brahma in a ported box well really blow your friend away. and i'm sure PL well be glad to tell you all about them:) also Alpine is a wonderfull choice i know you said it would be nice to stray from the name brands so to speak. but alpine type R''s are just wonderfull and the new type X is pretty damn impresive. Chronos swez on 10/4/2004 05:55:24 Adire Brahma is a very solid performer. Not a cheap sub in any category. For max. SPL and very good SQ, this is a great sub. Power wise, the coils are rated for 1600 WRMS, but if you go to a larger ported enclosure, less power is needed to reach full excursion and output. This is a 2+2 DVC. Am hearing good things about the Apline SWX series too. Not a cheap sub either... but not one everybody will have either. The best overall performer at a moderate price are MA Audio subs. They take the power, well priced and not everyone has one either. http://www.thezeb.com/MAAudio.aspx?Results=1&CategoryID=17&manufacturer=24 Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
