I want to buy a good pair of components for my car and i was just wondering what kind i should buy. i was going to get MB Quart, but i heared they got bought out and now suck. so i was going with boston acoustic's 3 way Pro Series 6.5, is that good buy or not? Is there anyother brands that are good? does JL make good line for components? does infinity make a good line too?

Yes, all mentioned names have pretty good Comps in their line up. It really depends on how much you wish to "invest" and how much power you have to drive them to full potential. A 20 watt/channel HU (RMS) may not cut it. But 50+ watts RMS per channel will make a huge difference.

MBQ's are not bad Comps... very expensive and many that have (had)them, complain the tweeter is just to hot! Very bright and almost shrill as they use metal domes.

If you want more natural SQ type sounding Comps, use a silk dome tweeter as they are more realistic in sound reproduction.

If you want High end SQ gear here, consider Diamond, Focal, Adire Koda, Crystal or Dynaudio.

If these are a but too rich for your wallet, then Infinity Kappa or Perfects are good as are Polks, Eclipse, CDT.

Here's a deal that is sure to please the ears and the wallet:

i have never heared of CDT audio, if i bought them i wouldn't be unhappy with my buy? i planed on getting a amp to push the comps.

my infinity kappa perfects screamm!!! good for the price, but sounds like you want a higher priced setup

I know a few guys that use CDT and they rave the product. If you look at the price tag on many of the CDT speakers, NOT LOW BUDGET GEAR !!! This is top drawer, forthe very picky audio snob!

Yes, Infinity Perfercts and Kappas are very good for the price as far as moderate cost Comps go... but why not have audiophile grade Comps at a price well below list. These are selling very well and anyone that knows a lot about audiophile car audio, will mention CDT in the top 5 picks.

This CL61a version is their "Classic" line and are being sold well below normal retail as the color schem of the paint used is slightly off. More or less, a blemish blowout deal by CDT, but has no bearing on sound quality or performance.

I have Polk Comps now, and these are very good too... but if I had some extra cash and spce for a 6.5" Comp... I'd buy them too. CLAP

I just ordered the cdt's about 5 minutes ago. Hoping they will give me what I need. I have Polk EX365's in my door now and I love the tweet on them but I just don't seem to get any midbass out of them. Hoping these will compliment my 12A well.

I have the same experience with Polk Comps. They need power to really get them working well. I even wrote to Polk about the lack of full midbass in my install and they suggested reversiong the polarity on same as this may be a phase issue and adding an outboard amp.

Have not done this yet... not much time/energy after work and the though of yanking half the car apart to do the rest is not a pleasant thought either. In fact, I'd like to get a different vehicle as this car (90' Olds Trofeo') is getting older, has other issues that need to be addressed and I am ready for a larger vehicle anyway.

I know you will love the CDT's once installed and tweaked out with an amp! Give us an update when you install them OK?

Will do. I will be running them on a Clarion APX 400.4 so hopefully this gives me the power I need to get them going.

yes, I am one of the ones that he speaks of that raves about the CDTs, i own their CL-41 comps and they absolutely rule. not much midbass, but you cant expect too much from a 4" woofer and im very impressed. both highs and mids are exquisite. i would definitly recommend the buy that you just did. im almost positive you will not be dissapointed.

thats some good stuff. too bad i dont have another job yet, as i might have bought those also.

have fun

I just got them in today. Ofcourse as soon as I got them I had to install them :) Right now they are just running off the HU because I didn't have time re-install my amp. Already I am impressed though. The highs are beautiful and very crisp and I have a little more midbass with these already. I'm thinking once I get the amp re-installed and do some more adjusting to them that I will be even more impressed. Also the build quality on these looks to be outstanding. Thank you CDT for screweing up the paint color :p

if you want more midbass you need to make an enclosure for the speakers. Even just putting a solid piece of dynamat or the equivilent sound damping material adds alot of midbass...

I am gonna try to find someone local to build me some kicks as im not skilled enough to do it.

i told you there would be no dissapointment in the sound quality arena. CDT makes some of the best stuff around. lol, can u tell i have a favorite for comps?

snipe523 on 06/26/2003 03:58:52
no not at all lol

Glad you are happy with the new drivers.... I had hear they were very good and the price on that specific model makes for a steal of a deal.
