I just installed Panasonic MXE CQ C5410U in otherwise stock system. Can anyone provide suggestions for a powered sub and stock speaker replacement. The sound is improved over stock but still needs something extra. I like a tight bass, not a booming type. How are the Bazooka branded subs? Thanks Replies (8) swez on 09/29/2004 14:41:15 Stock speakers will usually sound better with more power provided by aftermarket HU's and outboard amps. For a modest bass system, Bazooka is not a bad start. Also, Infinity Basslink and JBL offer a very nice powered sub. Compact, good design and not a bad price if you shop it well. Here's a link to a few major e-tailers we frequently have folks check out. Alpine JL Elemental designs Resonant engineering adire infinity jbl and many more all have good subs so do many others. 200watts and an alpine type S spring to mind as a good option for you. as swez said check out the listed sites tell us what looks like you may be interested in and we well help you from there, Chronos IraJake on 09/29/2004 16:45:45 Great feedback. The Infinity BassLink seems interesting. Do you think it is large enough to get the type of Bass I am looking for in my size truck. Also, the HU I purchased has a seperate Sub output with a built-in high and low crossover (I say this like I sound like I know what I am talking about). Would I need anything else for the install? Jake ttocs on 09/29/2004 17:05:26 my buddy has one in his extended cab s10 and it fills it nicely as it should your truck. I think CC sells them, go take a listen.... uochronos on 09/29/2004 19:58:13 nope looks like you would just need a sub and amp for the install. as for enough bass for that size truck its harder to get high SPL(volume) in a small car then it is to get it in a larger SUV or van. more room and air to move. Chronos ttocs on 09/29/2004 22:08:06 if you used the basslink, all you would need is an ampkit, and not a heavy awg either. The output on the deck, and the remote volume controll for the basslink should give you more then enough control to tune it the way you like. Mounting it in different places/position will also make a big difference. IraJake on 09/30/2004 09:32:50 It looks like I can find a new BassLink on ebay for around $200. On the installation, should I run the power and line out cables under the truck to get them into the rear cargo area or inside under the carpet? Also, where would a good place be to connect the unit to the power. Jake swez on 09/30/2004 10:13:02 Run your RCA's on one side of the truck...under the carpet trim rails is most acceptable. Your power line comes from the Pos post on the battery, immediately followed by an inline fuse. Then, find/make a hole in the fire wall and fish the power line through to inside of cabin and back to amp location. Keep the power line on one side of the cabin and the RCA's on the other side. The amp is grounded tp floor pan or a seatbelt bolt. Has to be connected to bare metal though. No paint, body primer or other coatings at ground site. These parts are all included in a good 2 channel amp kit. Wire gage for this amp is not large. A #10 gage kit will do just fine as this amp does not draw a large amount of current. A quick and dirty install might be an option here if your truck has a 12 volt power port. Many newer trucks/cars have extra ports (similar to cigarette lighter) for laptops, portable DVD/CD players etc. These ports can usually handle up to 25A of current draw. Would need some heavy gage wires (#12 power & ground) here... but this would allow the system to be removed with minimal effort, when more space is needed. The only other wire needed would be a REMote turn on wire from the HU to amp. Most RCA lines have an integrated traveler wire built into them for this feed. Comments?
