hey.. I keep blowing 120amp fuses.. I think it's because they are overrated and poor quality. I need the Jumbo fuses... Know where I can buy a pack of these? thanks.. I know yall probably missed me! I've been away from the site.. But imm bacck!! ;) Replies (4) P0werLifter on 09/23/2004 01:38:49 a 1200watt amplifier at full power pulls around 98.7. (1200/.9=1333.33....1333.33/13.5= 98.7 ampere draw for your alternator. A 120amp fuse should be plenty for this system. If its blowing its blowing for a viable reason that you should figure out b4 upgrading to a larger fuse. What other things are you running in your system? other amplifiers?Eq? etc Is there a possible short somewhere?Check all your wires, grounds etc to make sure When did it start blowing? was it working fine prior and it just started up? -Jason swez on 09/23/2004 08:09:18 When using large amps like this one, voltage drops in the electrical system can be considerable. If the voltage cannot meet demand, it will draw more current. Also, this amp requires a 4 gage power line alone. Try changing the gain controls to say 4 volts for a test and see if the amp still blows fuses. If yes, you have a severe current draw issue and need some qualified electrical diagnostics. Feedback please... Swez Munchiesyumm on 09/23/2004 10:11:57 Yep. I know the whole story. This amp is a stright up monster. Anyways I got a 100amp fuse from walmo.. HAHA I dunno I thought it would be fine.. But please.. This is a quality JBL 1200.1 in a 1992 Volvo 940 with upgraded alt/bat. No other amplifers besides the current pull from the deck and accessories.. Even though he has upgraded electrical it still starts getting "cranky" sometimes and is needed to be TURNED DOWN because of obvious health reasons.. The SPL is considered in two criterias great and INSANE. I would definatly suggest this setup to anyone! I already redid all connections to insure this was not a wiring problem and I upgraded the speaker wires to a larger guage inside and out.. It seems to be more happy now. I'll fill yall in with the specs (2) Phoenix Gold ti15d (1) 1.75cf per sub custom box (I made it.. very proud) (1) JBL 1200.1 mono amplifier (1) Sony CDX-CHEAPIE (wat I like to call it :) ) This is deffinatly ghetto style.. Cuz when in the back seat forget about hearing lyrics.. I did all the install work.. Bolted down the subs that BARELY fit in his trunk.... And mounted the amp on top to reflect it's beauty! The JBL part just makes me SMILE! I haven't been around too much to help cuz I've been busy with www.chevytalk.com, and a couple other great sites helping out there but I will make sure I visit here more to help balance out the load! I think I'll order some the JUMBO fuses online.. The one we have did not only blow but it melted.. Im sure it was from continous use not just one time cranking it.. I am sure my friend is smarter than this or i'll have to have a talkkk with him.. nice to talk to you guys again! have a great day Swez, Powerlifter! thanks. swez on 09/23/2004 10:23:25 Good plan... a common beginner that is more into abusing his ears/gear than using "uncommon sense". Better to inform him of his listening practices as they are severely detrimental to his ears and very hard on the vehicle electricals. In short, he needs some specific education to protect himself from himself. Good luck, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
