Swez or anyone that can help..
I am trying to get 4 eclipse 10" subs reconed. They are the 88100.4 series. They are old svc subs. I work for an authorized Eclipse dealer, and they will not recone these. Nor will they offer any advice on where I can get the materials to do it myself. Any input would be helpful in finding something to recone these. Do I need something that fits these exactly? or will any cone/spider with certain size vc work?

Reconing is an art... but not rocket science. The average cost to recone a 10" driver will be about $75.00/ea. If you can get the parts from Eclipse, I'd bet you could do it yourself. You'll need the cone, coil, spider, surround, dust cap and gaskets to fit that model. There may be parts out there that will fit, but may not sound like the original unit when finished. Use Eclipse parts if at all possible for that OEM performance and sound.

The key to a good recone is centering the coil in the gap. Most use small wooden shims (flat toothpicks or plastic shims) to do this while the glue is setting up. It's a delicate operation, but with your skills, I would bet you can do this.

FYI: Most reconing services repair expensive Pro-line subs. It makes sense to recone a $400.00 woofer at $100.00 a pop. In your case, either write to Eclipse and see if you can buy recone kits and DIY or check out Google for options that may help.

Good luck in your adventure,

PS I've never done one, but have repaired a few damaged units before. How bad are these drivers now? Just cones and surrounds or worse?
