I'm wondering if anybody could give me any information about changing size of speakers on my front door. Currently my car uses 4x6" front speakers... I'm interested in getting a 6.5" component system and I was wondering how I can change it to be able to fit 6.5" if that is possible. I've tried to find some information but I haven't had any luck so far so I hope one of you can help me out. Replies (8) P0werLifter on 09/20/2004 01:02:10 There are a couple of different ways to change the size of a speaker. Being that your initial speaker size was a 4x6 you'll need an adapter plate (can make it out of MDF rather than buying one) and you might need to shave alittle off the height in order to fit the 6.5" speaker. Fairly Simple process Im sure some of the other guys will have some sites, more options/ info for ya -Jason swez on 09/20/2004 09:42:03 One of the easiest ways to do this, would be to use kick panel mounts. This way, you have no reason to open up the door panels, the kicks provide better aiming/imaging and is an enclosure to give the midbass better low end response. Q-Logic makes many custom fit styles and maybe MTX does as well. OK guys, who else makes quality kick panel designs? Swez sounds on 09/21/2004 20:35:37 Where would I be able to find custom kick panel mounts? I can't seem to find one for my car. I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand AM SE. Let me know where I could find one for my car. P0werLifter on 09/21/2004 22:28:21 Try going to www.cardomain.com then go to where it says Stereo Installation i think it is..you should see a section for the Q logic Kickpanels. Im sure more of the guys will have more info Jason sounds on 09/22/2004 19:40:58 I've checked www.cardomain.com , www.crutchfield.com , and a few other sites and none have any custom kick panel for my car... is there an universal kick panel or something? I also wasn't able to find a adapter plate that changes 4x6 to 6.5.. .i've only been able to find 4x6 to 3.5" or 4"... any suggestions? uochronos on 09/22/2004 19:50:41 you can have a car audio shop make an adaptor plate for you out of MDF for a very reasonable price. i had mine made from High strength polymer a type of plexi glass basicaly. for 30$ for the pair. as for kick pannels some cars are harder to find them for. popolar cars like civic, jettas, toyotas, etc are easy to find them for. other cars such as your may be more difficult. ttocs or kittle both work at shops they may be able to give you resources where you can find them. Chronos swez on 09/22/2004 19:52:02 There is a Universal kit from Q-Logic on kick panels. Here's a link to them. Just shoot them an e-mail and tell them what you need: http://www.qlogic.ws/2003/contact/contact.asp Swez swez on 09/22/2004 20:24:55 After much looking on Google, I think it may be better to modify the door speaker locations to accomodate the speakers you want to install. This may not be too hard to do on your own if you have the time and patience to do so. If not, consider a custom installer to do it for you. Yes, it will cost you a few clams... but the results are often stunning compared to OEM designs. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
