I installed a Clarion deck in my friend's 2004 grand am, and it isn't working right. I used a wiring harness from Best Buy and we get illumination to the deck but nothing else. The strangest thing was once it was in, the face flipped open once and then closed, but after that... nothing. All of the wires are connected, except for the power antenna wire from the deck (2004 grand am doesn't have a power antenna) and the phone mute wire from the deck. There was one yellow Bus power wire from the deck that is not connected. The instructions say to connect this directly to the battery, but that didn't seem to make sense to me considering it's only a 16 gauge wire. My friend went to Tweeter to ask them what the problem was, and they said it didn't have anything to do with the yellow bus power wire, but that it had something to do with the igniting connection. But, again that didn't make sense because I know I connected the red power wire from the deck to the red 12volt ignition wire on the harness. Tweeter wants to charge my friend $60 to fix it. Can someone help. Replies (3) uochronos on 09/19/2004 16:44:14 if the "bus power wire" says to connect to the batery i would suggest doing it. seems if a wire needs constant 12volt and isnt getting it that would cause alot of problems. some of the other golds are more well versed in installs then i'am they well be along shortly to throw some suggestions in. till then i suggest hooking up the bus power wire. also make sure you are conected to the right wire for the ignition and the constant 12 volt. sometimes these can get reversed or other problems. a test light or volt meter can be used to check these. also check the fuses, all the fuses under the hood and inside the car. sometimes even fuses that dont seem to have anything to do with the radio can blow and make it not work. Chronos ttocs on 09/19/2004 17:47:45 that car does not have a +12v switched wire. You can either run the switched(red) wire to the fuse box of connect it to the brown wire in the ignition hrns. There is also a very good chance that something was multiplexed through the deck(as gm loves to do) so you may or may not have a dome light, door buzzer, ect...... ttocs on 09/19/2004 17:48:33 it is strange the way they wire them but trust me, you have no ignition voltage.
