Since i sent my other nidrange in for repair i've only had my drivers sides midrange and tweeter playing. I've noticed that my tweeter will get quite then play like it should. I usually jsut have to turn the volume up to fix this. Its been doing this all week. Lastnight it was making me mad and i wanted to figure out the problem. I made sure the connections were tight on the tweeter and crossover and they were. Well i hit my door to see if that would help and the tweeter played like its supposed to for a little while. Then i tapped the crossover and it played right and i figured out that its the crossover. If i push and pull on the tweeter wires close at the crossover i can get it working sumtimes then i noticed that if i lifted the board where everything is connected to on the crossover by the crossovers terminal that it will play fine until i let it go back down in its original position. So i dont confuse anyone, the tweeter plays all the time but it will get quite, as if there was a mute button that cut the volume in half on the tweeter. So could it be something loose at the terminal for the tweeter or what? Any ideas guys? Chronos ryan2 on 09/16/2004 12:44:33 well i took apart the crossover and messed with the terminals and made sure they were tight and then made sure the wires were shoved in tight and i played it for like 5 min with no problems so i'll see what happens. swez on 09/16/2004 21:01:07 Hummm, sounds like a loose connection, bad wire or corrosion might be a factor here. Where are the crossovers located? (doors, under dash or other) Most crossovers are complex, but use fairly simple passive devices like caps, coils and maybe overload protection. The circuit board is usually the culprit or its terminations in and out of the device. If you have problems again, either return it for warrantee repairs of open the cover and inspect the board and components for dull solder joints, loose components or connectors. Swez ryan2 on 09/20/2004 13:19:53 Well i didnt' fix the problem. To make sure it was the crossover i hooked everything up to the other crossover and i havent had any problems. So it seems that somewhere on the other crossover theres a problem with the tweeter connection. Swez there located on the outside of the door. Everything looks fine on the circuit board and i cant see any corrosion. So im just going to have to send it in which makes me mad since i just sent my speaker in for repair to CDT. swez on 09/20/2004 13:27:20 Hummm, may have a filtering cap on that crossover that is flaky. It happends and usually, the speaker maker has little quality control over the components used on the board. I am sure CDT uses high quality components... but a bad lot of caps can be maddening and CDT has NO CONTROL over that stuff. Just send it back for repair/replacement... I know... delays and snags are frustrating... but just try to roll with what you have. Maybe you can ask CDT for some compensation (feebies) for your troubles. Like a 2nd set of ambient tweeters??? Swez ryan2 on 09/21/2004 11:42:19 Well im impressed. I wake up this morning to see a package laying on the living room floor. Its my speaker. It took them a week to get it fixed and get the speaker fixed. So now i wont have to worry about my crossover to take to long and plus i should be able to ship it out today hopefully to get that fixed. ttocs on 09/21/2004 12:03:38 try switching crossovers and see if the problem is the same on the other side. It could be a wire shorting out... ryan2 on 09/21/2004 12:10:45 ttocs i've tried that and the problem went away so i know its the crossover but thanks for the suggestion. ryan2 on 10/6/2004 13:06:17 I just got my crossover back today. They replaced it with a new one. They said the problem was a loose spool. I have to say again that CDT is a great company deal with when going to them for repairs. But the only down fall with the new crossover is that its gray and my other one is black. And the crossovers can be seen. But i think I can deal with that. uochronos on 10/6/2004 17:54:25 dont know about CDT but most high end speaker companies and audio companies well sell you very cheap new housings. Audio control for example. well sell you a whole new housing in any color you want for any of there products. i'm sure CDT for a very small price could get you another grey housing or a black one for very cheap.
