HELLO AGAIN TO ALL. ITS BEEN A BIT SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE AND ITS GOOD TO BE BACK. JUST PURCHASED A "NEW TO ME" 01 GRAND PRIX GTP. ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR IS FACTORY CD PLAYER DOESNT WORK SO I'M PUTTING IN A PANASONIC DFX701-U THAT WAS IN MY OLD CAR. MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A WAY OR A DEVICE THAT I CAN USE TO KEEP THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. I KNOW I'M GONNA LOOSE THE HEADS UP DISPLAY BUT I'VE HEARD THAT THERE IS AN INTERFACE DEVICE FOR SONY DECKS. I WAS HOPING SOMEONE MIGHT KNOW OF A GENERIC PIECE FOR ALL TYPES OF DECKS. THANX GUYS.

Sorry about that. programs i use at work all use caps, and after twelve years, i still have trouble seeing things in anything but caps. I'll get better at it, promise.

no worries.

Yes, there is an adaptor for this use. It does require some extra wiring, programming, as well as needing a small hole to be drilled to mount the IR transmitter. The whole will need to be somewhere around the deck, facing the deck. It really is hardly visable if done right. i did a google search for "factory steering wheel controls", and found this. There were more then a few to choose from.

ttocs, your a god! thank-you. everything i had found up until now worked if you were adding to the factory HU, not replacing it. now its just a matter of finding it here in calgary. thanx again.

Well, i'm glad to see we can all have some fun on this forum, although i'm a little clueless as to how i would become the bald installer. anyways, just a side note. managed to find the piece that i needed to try and make this work. No good. would not program and wiring colors are all wrong according to what they should be. Although this may have been an older model because the place that i found it here in calgary didnt even know they had it until they phoned the supplier and the supplier told them they did have one. Must have cleaned the dust off before they brought it out from the back. I have now ordered a new one through them to see if it works. I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.
