Well I ordered a set of CDT CL-61s today..and tomorrow im calling RE to see how much the XXX 18" will cost..then if i can..im gonna purchase it..then maybe sell the Power Acoustiks I have...

This is the plan

Run the XXX at 1ohm with the Power Acoustik Amplifier fo 1600watts RMS..Port and tune the enclosure to around 30Hz and go from there.

Build some custom kicks for the CDTs and mount them with 90watts RMS off the alpine amplifier for now.

Sound good? Suggestions?

Sounds like a solid plan to me...

do you have any idea what size box you will need for that sub? I am hoping you have a blow-through....

P0werLifter on 09/14/2004 11:24:22
LoL hey ttocs, I have plenty of room for an enclosure, The current enclosure I have for my 2 Mofos is 7cubic feet right now so building one the correct size for the 18 should be fine.

Im not quite sure the box reccmendations for the XXX yet though, im calling RE today to check the price, etc. Any ideas? Im definently using the largest port area possible for max SPL output.

Heres the XXX stats

XXX 18"

Rubatek foam surround
Cast aluminum Basket
Tork-Tite terminals
8layer-flatwood aluminum voice coil

Re 1.9 DVC

Well i talked to RE and it seems for the XXX 18" it will be 4 months on order due to the fact that the company that makes their baskets for the 18" is having problems

But for the 15" XXX its $ 600

If i wanted to go straight SPL i can buy the RE MT (5000watts RMS..can go higher) 18" woofer for $720

Oh boy im like a little boy in a candy shop...now just for how much i want to spend in amplifiers, materials, etc GRIN

That XXX 18" looks very impressive on specs. I do who know another guy that had fits on delivery issues with RE for the same reasons. He was told 3 months and finally got them in 6 mos. He liked the product but was very putout with all the delays. The were 10's he ordered... not 15's or 18's. (probably an off shore supply chain issue)

Also, may I give you a werd-up? When buying a product that is still in pre-production mode, many are handmade. The MFG does not have a handle on performance issues they might encounter, once the product hits (field testing) in the general market. This means several design revisions and possibly changing suppliers over time are possible, before they get all the bugs worked out. That could take up to 1 year. (or more) Are you prepaired for that kind of delay and being a beta test user?

Larger companies have better "vertical integration schemes". They design and make most (if not all) the components in their products. That allows for faster design times, testing and launching a new product with complete success.

Remember our phone chat... I mentioned my previous company always had big problems to solve when launching new technologies. I NEVER tried to sell them for at least 1 year. Why, because I knew the headaches that would come from them before all the bugs were worked out. This saved my sanity and my clients production schedules as well. The same issue applies here.

The MT also comes with no warranty due to its SPL nature.

P0werLifter on 09/16/2004 02:10:40
From the way the rep on the phone talked the Issue was only with the 18" Driver was the basket not being in production on time. No problems with the other drivers ariving on time or any scheduling issues etc that i know of.

The reason the shops have to order them direct from the factory is due to the options you have in VC ratings..and whether you want to run the DVC or the QuadVC configurations etc. Im allmost 100% positive RE has been around for a while now due to the fact on so many SPL/SQ boards ive heard nothing but good things about them and how great their products are.

Im still considering Adires but i really am thinking about going with the RE XXX

When i was speaking with the stereo shop in town who deals with Adire, and RE he was talking about how RE does make some parts for Adire. I dont know how true this is or not but thought it interestsing

As far as the MT not having any warranty, i understand that =) its a pure spl sub and competition in nature. I've downloaded a clip of one 18" MT with only 2000watts running in it and dannnng..the roof of the cab moving up and down..knocked a McDonalds cup off and some quarters hopped a good Inch in the air...If i do infact stick with RE im going to get the XXX series due to the fact i still want decent SQ and awesome SPL

(We all know sometimes its hard to listen to others opinions after we've just about made up our mind but im trying haha)

I understand and would be in the same quandry as you about it. It may be very possible that RE and Adire share some technical aspects of their designs. The X2BL technology is pretty unique to Adire and RE subs as far as I know.

I guess the bottom line is to wait it out and see when these subs become available for shipping. Some things are worth waiting for.

Yah I think next week I'm going to go down to the shop and talk with the installer there and see the average shipping time on a single sub. I do know they requre a 30% downpayment to order the sub then pay the rest in full when its recieved.

I had an interview yesterday for a new job with higher pay and better benefits so if I get this job, I'll be able to afford more subs/amps etc and start socking up my supplies. Im condisering buying an AstroVan and make that my project SPL van and see how far that gets me =) I can do all the work myself including welding, electrical, woodwork, and paint. Might be a pretty good thing GRIN Then for my Daily Driver I can focus on SQL for daily enjoyment.

Well I went down today..and was talking to Ryan the shop owner..and he got on the phone with RE and talked to them..turns out the company that was manufacturing the baskets for the 18s decided they werent going to produce anymore till RE ordered 6000 at a time...so their going toa different company.

In the meantime..i decided to go ahead and order a 15" XXX for my truck GRIN should be here on Oct 8th. Oh boy Oh boy Oh Boy...CDTs are going to be here on Sept 21st and the rest of my fiberglassing / sound deadning material will here by then also. Then i can really get down to business. Hard part is finding the time

I got my CDT CL-61T's today. Im pretty exited to hear how they sound in my truck, but insteald of building my own kicks like i had planned, i Decided to go ahead and order some Q-Logic kick panels then modify them. Save me some time, and will turn out better probably.

Has anyone had any issues with the Q-logic fitting the CDT 6.5"s in them? Are they strong enough or should i add some resin.?

I just ordered the kicks so they should be in within the week hopefully. Only takes 2 days from CarDomain to get to my house.
Then ill run everything when i have time and see where that lands me.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

hey jason keep us posted on those results id'e like ta hear what that re15 hits and have you measured your mofos on a meter yet?i also run power acoustik amps so im kinda wondering if their subs match up in quality

P0werLifter on 09/21/2004 23:12:40
Will do Will do....No i havnt metered my Mofos due to the fact that i havnt installed my Epic 160 yet..Ive been trying to prioritize so my installs...Id venture to guess around 150dB. You cant sit in it very long w/o feeling sick..the rear window flex's and vibrated a cup that was on top of my truck right off the size (it was in the middle to begin with)

Ive been impressed with the MOFOs..their good SPL sub..but ive heard different things about their other lines.

Ill let you know how the xXx measures up for sure
